Former 'first bloke' convicted of sexual assault

Tim Mathieson, the former partner of Australia's first female prime minister, has been convicted and fined $7000 after sexually assaulting a woman, leaving her feeling so unsafe she moved interstate.

The 66-year-old formally pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Ok as a woman I might need to speak up about something here (which some of you guys may not be aware of). Our boobies are sensitive personal areas esp our nipples and if touched inappropriately then the resultant sensation can be quite painful and sore. So if the person who’s getting up close and personal isn’t your partner and/or isn’t someone you want to be near that area of your body and/or if this happens whilst you’re sleeping ...chances are you will wake up in shock by the pain and be distressed by what’s happening to you. There’s nothing pleasurable or nice about it. In fact it’s totally upsetting and together with the pain in your breast area including the nipples you will probably need a lot of time to process the event and allow yourself to be touched there again by anyone in the future. I know it’s not rape as in being vaginally raped but it’s pretty much the same sort of thing in that the incident leaves you feeling helpless and taken advantage of by someone who disrespected you and disregarded your right to give consent.
