When you live in a farming community you live with. . .flies.

Squirting Mortein around the place is messy and not the best practice.

Reading some stuff I googled about repelling flies I bought some essential oils.

The eucalyptus and lavender oils came in spray bottles.

Both of these work a treat. The clove oil, not in a handy spray bottle I have not tried yet.

I will be planting a heap of lavender, basil, marigolds etc around doors and windows.

Away from the house I intend to place fly traps to attract and kill flies.

Easy one, half a cup of apple cider vinegar with some pure liquid soap in a jar—flies are attracted to the apple aroma, can’t get out because of the soap

Some beer—VB rubbish not craftbrewed nectar of course

etc.


Separate to this I will need to have fruitfly and codling moth traps a bit later.

I just use those mozzies and fly zapper plug-ins to do the job of ridding the house of excess flies (and mozzies).

Yes, and I use sticky fly trap paper.

BUT

You will likely find essential oils will keep flies away.

We use this stuff rather than ordinary fly spray...

Yup, I bought that and tried it.

While there is the odd blowie in the front porch they don’t settle and eventually leave.

(Sliding insect and screen doors on the front porch are the next project. Hopefully I can get a new lock put on the screen door on the side door (no back door right now.)

So happy with that.

Apple cider vinegar and liquid soap in jars should get rid of heaps!
