Considering Cops and Security around the world use the same restraint, with hardly any deaths, if none at all.
As in the case of two Australian cops who released such a restraint on man who cried "I can't breath!" only to have him grab the officer's gun from the holster and try to shoot them in a struggle... I would say your mental health is far far worse.

George 'Fentanyl' Floyd was a junkie overdose.

Police have handcuffs. These cuff the hands. Hands are cuffed in an arrest. The arrested person is handcuffed. People don't breathe through their hands. They breathed through the neck. It's between the head and the chest. Lungs are in the chest. Lungs are not handcuffed. Breathing is good for keeping someone alive. Murder is called 'murder'. It means you don't need the handcuffs any more. The police are paid for the job.

Jasin, if you cannot grasp the point of looking up the medical records of the autopsy before you spout off your shite, don't bother posting any more. Floyd was not a well man. He was possibly a few KFC meals away from not waking up in the morning. But, he was not going to die that day. Only an extreme effort of changing his diet and going sober of drugs and alcohol could have prevented George Floyd from dying earlier than 70 years of age. Anything considerably less than an attitude adjustment would have meant a premature death.

However, in saying that, Floyd was not going to die that day. I had to repeat that statement. As a 46 year old, George Floyd had:
*arteriosclerosis -- multifocal and severe.
*a history of hypertension.
*a pelvic tumour.

Even with a layman's understanding of the human body, applying pressure to the neck of someone would lead that person to losing consciousness. Continued pressure applied to the neck after the person has passed out would make it difficult for the person to regain their "breath" or ability to "breathe".

Given the low amount of fentanyl in George Floyd's body (in addition to Floyd's tolerance from previous fentanyl usage), it is unlikely that fentanyl was the cause of his death.

Considering that Cop was nearly killed twice previously by 'junkies' - he too was not going to 'die that day'!

Considering that two Australian Cops released the 'knee' from the neck of a druggo grub who cried "I CAN'T BREATH!" and they both were nearly killed by him that day...

Considering anyone not being compliant to requests are going to resort to violence if given the opportunity.
George Floyd was not given that opportunity thankfully.

Having worked in Psyche Wards of the quite potentially dangerous: non-compliance always grew towards violence if given the chance.

Let's not forget that the effects of Fentanyl on Floyd's 'paranoid' episode would have made 'breathing' for him a wooden chest and heart attack anyway.

In speeches made after his inauguration on June 30 of 2016, Duterte urged citizens to kill suspected criminals and drug addicts. He said he would order police to adopt a shoot-to-kill policy, and would offer them a bounty for dead suspects.

Australian cops have applied for Highway Orders where citizens can shoot to kill suspected speeding drivers. Most are on drugs and would have crashed anyway. High tackles and no-ball in cricket will also bring bullets for the suspect.

There was no comorbitity in George Floyd's death, and there was no doubt. He was killed by a cop whilst restrained, pinned down and pleading for his life.

He wasn't even being 'arrested'.
He freaked out - he became aggressive, non-compliant and all the behaviours of heading towards violence 'if given the chance'.
Who's fault is that?
The Cops were 'forced by Floyd' to take the action they had to.
If they were Chinese Cops against such a big individual like Floyd - they would have just shot him.

Floyd INITIATED his own death - both by Fentanyl and more and by his behaviour and actions. The Cops were given NO CHOICE to do what they did and I have had to do the same in restraining Psyche Patients who also initiate non-compliance in behaviour and actions.

Chauvin, who was nearly killed by junkies previously on two occassions didn't want it to be a Strike 3 and Out.

It's obvious that many see the life of a Junkie nasty as more important than that of a Law Enforcement Officer trying to do his job. ::)

I most certainly do, dear, and I do not dismiss the po-lice's role or function. That has nothing to do with murdering a suspect in cold blood.

The po-lice were not trying to resuscitate George Floyd or prevent him harming himself or others.

Zombies should be dealt with accordingly, by shooting them with a silver bullet or laser gun, depending upon the genre of fiction in which one writes.

The difference between Humans and Animals is that Animals can never become 'Monsters' like what Humans can.
Floyd was a Monster and disliked by many in the neighbourhood because of his crimes.
He had become a dangerous junkie Zombie as all junkie Zombies are.

Now lets say he was a Hamas Terrorist and the cop was an Israeli Soldier...

The fact still remains that you are all STILL dismissing his initial actions and behaviours (he was not being arrested) that warrant Police to take action.
If he had complied and did everything expected, they Cops would have thanked him for his help and walked away.

HE BASICALLY CAUSED HIS OWN DEATH upon many levels.

Now if you look at many clips of what Cops have to deal with over in America - Floyd was given quite a leeway before he had to be restrained. Most usually attack Cops straight away and Cops get killed for being too 'passive'.

If I thought my life was in danger by a dangerously paranoid junkie Zombie, I wouldn't hesitate in keeping a knee on him (which is done all around the world as a restraint). Not my fault his Fentanyl is making it hard for him to breath and giving him a cardiac arrest which is what he had.

Again. Those two Australian Cops released the knee of a man 'actually being arrested', when he cried that he couldn't breath and they nearly lost their lives when he grabbed one of their guns and fired off!

Now wouldn't you say, that's more than justification of not taking chances with the criminally insane, the insane and the dangerously insane Zombie junkies?

If you're saying he was insane, mind you, you've withdrawn your earlier charge.

Changing the subject to the Aust man, was he handcuffed when he grabbed a gun and fired it? Through his foot? If he wasn't handcuffed after a struggle, that's the cops' error.

How was Floyd a danger in this situation?
A typical US penalty for obstruct police is up to 5 years jail (as in nSW). If JaSin urges murder, he is a public nuisance and will be shot on sight.

If it was an upstanding Black American that has given much for his country and more AND WAS COMPLIANT.
Then I would say Chauvin 'over-reacted' and it was indeed 'murder'.

But Floyd was NOT being arrested and thus, no hand-cuffs and just restrained. Not the Cop's fault Floyd was suffering from the effects of his own SELF DESTRUCTION (Suicidal actions). It was all Floyd's choices right down to his cardiac arrest and woodchest effects of Fentanyl.

Why should a cop be held accountable for every junkie's self destruction (suicide)?

Floyd allegedly used a counterfeit bill to buy cigarettes at the convenience store last week. The clerk reported it to police, a step that management described as store policy in Facebook posts.

The impression that I get from the black community the world over is that they are the most racist people on the planet. The African American people in the BLM movement were not concerned about Floyd's past criminal history, or that Floyd was not a sound character in the community. They were seeing George Floyd's racial background and associating one instance of police brutality to justify their own racial hatred.

Consider the BLM movement. The implication of the name "Black Lives Matter" means that "Black Lives Only Matter". The number of people stating that "All Lives Matter", as a counterargument, have only received treatment of contempt and threats against them.

Then there is the Floyd family. One of the relatives was watching on television the verdict being read. The amount of "Mmmhmmm" and "yes!" brought about the reactions by the family had made it seem like they were taking it personally, rather than having sympathy for what George went through in his ordeal. But, I don't know that for certain.

There's no protagonist in all this. The officers obviously planned for George to die. The officers did not even make it look like an accident. George Floyd did not even act like he was expecting to live that day. He even asked to lay on the ground. Whether that act was to provoke some sympathy by the community, or whether Floyd was submitting to his execution, I would not know. The only real victim of all this was Floyd's daughter. I could expect her life to be all the better without her father in her life.

Chauvin can stay in gaol and get the treatment he deserves.

The car was impounded and first searched 2 days after Floyd was killed. Chauvin had no idea about the $20.

The car was searched a second time the following december and they found drugs.

No they found it 2 days later. At the point that Floyd was killed the police had no idea if he had a fake note or not. I don't see it matters at all it isn't a green light to murder him either way.

But, Floyd's reaction during the arrest gives the impression that he knew he was going to get killed that day. Especially when Floyd said his "I love you" goodbyes as he lay dying.

The police officer (Chauvin) was being obviously reckless by cutting off George Floyd's air supply. And he was doing this in full view of onlookers (a few with cameras, as well as security cameras capturing the incident), for a full 7+ minutes. And even as Floyd had passed out, Chauvin moved his knee to make sure that had the full weight. I don't know of any other explanations for why Chauvin would move his knee the way he did other than to improve the chokehold for better effect. An expert witness testified in court that this type of restraint was always going to result in someone passing out.

Poverty is much about people not making use of their income better. In Australia, that would be the main reason for poverty (even if you were unemployed). Crime is a result of desperation to get out of some kind of situation. Most robberies are drug-related. If drugs were cheaper, crime rates would be lower. But, because drugs are illegal, the costs of obtaining them are high.

Had George Floyd showed some self-restraint and gave up taking drugs, he probably would be alive today. I mean, even after his last stint in gaol, Floyd should have started acting his age and just gone straight.

I don't do drugs. I have drunk to excess. I, too, need to give up alcohol from here on to make it in the world.

the proseuction's case mostly rested on the testimony of witness dr. tobin, the jury said as much even if it's clear most of them didn't really understand his argument either

the whole trial was boring and only worth listening to the testimony of dr tobin (prosecution) vs dr baker (defense), as well as the testimony of the coroner

If you have ever been in a chokehold to the point of passing out, you would know how tough it is to recover. Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd's neck for about 3 minutes beyond when Floyd passed out. The officer, Chauvin, was such a negligent officer of the law, it is no surprise that he was found guilty.

I am in no way in much sympathy for Floyd's lifestyle. But, the way Floyd died, there is some sympathy from me.

Chauvin is a hillbilly moron. If you bothered to watch the trial, you would see the near-universal condemnation through argument based on evidence whilst testifying in the courtroom. Chauvin was not taught to kneel on a suspect's neck during an arrest, according to Chauvin's training officer. When a suspect is no longer resisting (such as when a suspect passes out), you no longer need to restrain them.

There was a whole set of posts on this subject where I analysed each day of the trial. It now appears to be gone. Given the scrutiny of Chauvin's personality, you would not want him as a neighbour.

I had an operation when I was 15 years old. Upon the days of recovery, I had to take fentanyl every few hours (every 6 hours). After a few days, I had to stop taking them because the fentanyl cost a lot of money per pill. But, I did not have trouble breathing. Nor did I suffer any heart trouble.

George Floyd had recovered from the coronavirus a few months earlier. He had a heart condition and a mild tumour. Given his drug usage, and his tolerance to his drug dependency, it seems unlikely that Floyd was going to die that day. Even if, in the unlikely scenario, Floyd had gone home and died sitting on his couch from his own condition a few hours later, it does not change the fact that Derek Chauvin expedited George Floyd's death. And knowing that Floyd did not move at all for 3 minutes passed out, whilst Chauvin had his knee on Floyd's neck, it is conclusive that Chauvin meant to kill Floyd. I would not be surprised if Chauvin had an earlier disagreement with Floyd.

wasnt charged with any hate crime nor was anything like that cited as an aggravating factor during sentencing

Two weeks of the Chauvin trial were available to watch. There was about 4 to 8 hours per day of footage of the trial available to the public. I might well have watched 10% of the footage. But, I listened to about 80% of the trial, whilst I surfed the net or played computer games. I got a good idea of what happen during the trial. My opinion of Chauvin went from seeing him as a scapegoat that had done police brutality, to one that shows him as an actual murderer.

Floyd was breathing fine until he was put in a laying position that made it hard for him to breathe. After a while, he lost consciousness and stopped breathing.

I bet you have stopped breathing laying in an awkward position on your bed. You are only alive because you awoke to the stress of needing to breathe and changing position to allow the blood flow.

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who was convicted in the 2020 killing of George Floyd, was assaulted Friday in a federal prison in Arizona, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Chauvin is in stable condition after the assault at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, the source said.

When asked about the report of Chauvin being harmed, FBI offices in Phoenix and Minneapolis said they were aware of an assault that happened at the federal prison on Friday, but did not identify a person and referred CNN to the Bureau of Prisons for more information.

Chauvin’s attorney Greg Erickson told CNN he was working on getting confirmation.

“An incarcerated individual” was assaulted at Tucson prison at approximately 12:30 p.m.,the Bureau of Prisons said in a statement Friday. Two sources confirmed to CNN the individual was Chauvin.

“Responding employees initiated life-saving measures for one incarcerated individual” and that person was transferred to a hospital for treatment, the bureau’s statement said. “No employees were injured during the incident,” the statement said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

I am not blind to the amount of black racism that is going on in the world. But, you can imagine that if the officers did not kill George Floyd, the riots would not have gone ahead. Even the most entitlement personality disordered, racist black person trying to empathise with Floyd would not have gone on a riot and looting spree, had Floyd just been put in the car and driven back to the police station for processing.

Perhaps the ones on the other side of the law and being gaoled for their crimes. This article re: Chauvin getting stabbed is just music to my ears. Chauvin has had reports of being a psychopath. I would not be surprised that there was something else (other than Chauvin's crime) that led to him getting stabbed.
