Title: Paying Eye-Watering Amount For Pantry Staplesl

Fresh analysis reveals the alarming rate prices of pantry staples have increased by
Aussies are now paying an eye-watering amount more each week for common pantry staples, according to fresh analysis.   :(

Australian shoppers are paying up to twice as much as they were three years ago for pantry staples such as olive oil and a bag of mixed peas and corn.

Fresh analysis by Compare the Market has revealed no shopping aisle has avoided the impact of inflation since 2021, with prices of common items jumping 40 per cent.   :o

The worst offender was Monini Classico Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which has jumped in price from $12 in 2021 to $24 this year thanks to drought and fires in Europe.

Meanwhile, a humble bag of McCain mixed vegetables will now set you back 54 per cent more, up from $2.60 to $4.

The cost of common pantry staples has soared over the past three years.

The price of Bega Tasty Cheese Block jumped $2.50 (31 per cent), Red Rock Deli Sea Salt chips are up 35 per cent, while the cost of a 10-pack of Coca-Cola 375ml rose 32 per cent.

Compare the Market’s Chris Ford said while an increase of a few dollars didn’t seem like much, it had a major impact on a household’s weekly budget.

“We know that the big supermarkets are trying to lure in customers by locking in or dropping prices, but our analysis shows that many of the essentials we shop for each week have actually increased since last year,” he said.

“In a time where we’re seeing energy bills skyrocket, feeling pain at the petrol bowser and seeing insurance premiums rise, the last thing we want is for Australians to be forking out more than they need to on everyday items they need.”   :(

He said recent extreme weather events and a potential increase to shipping costs would also contribute to higher checkout prices at the moment.

“Which is why it’s more important now than ever before for Aussies to take back control, wake up to waste and pay as little as possible for the groceries we need.”

Shoppers have been urged to shop around before they head in store to make sure they are securing the best price.

Supermarket prices have become a political lightning rod in recent weeks as the government scrambles to act in a bid to convince voters about their record on the cost-of-living.

A review into the food and grocery code, which governs the relationship between retailers, wholesalers and suppliers, is currently under way.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told reporters on Tuesday he was “concerned” about the prices consumers were paying at the big supermarket giants.

The government has left the door open to ordering the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to launch an inquiry – but indicated the watchdog was “closely” considering legal action about deceptive prices.

“We want to make sure that people are paying the lowest possible prices when they get to a checkout. That’s our priority along with other measures to assist people,” Mr Albanese said.

If prices go any higher, will consumers stop spending?.  Must be time to cut your prices.   :(

Unionists have a right to rip off Customers.
Where do you think the money comes from to pay for their pay rises?

ABC  TV news had an article about this, this morning.

Most of the supermarket specials are for unhealthy food -
full of: salt, sugar and fat -
so that's what parents are feeding their kids.

They will cause a future health crisis.

The two most notable Labor promises before the May 2022 election involved ‘getting wages moving again’ and the promise to bring down electricity prices.

We heard them ad nauseam, yet it is worth quoting precisely what was said so that we can check on their progress:

Electricity prices have increased, real wwwages decreased. Fighting Tories, innit.

In June of 2022, the ABS estimates the hourly wage index number at 140.1. As of September, the index is 147.9, so there has been some growth in wages paid. As a percentage, the increase is 5.57 per cent.

Over that same period, however, cost of living has also increased. The CPI for Australia as a whole has risen by 7.3 per cent.

By the simple calculation, this means real wages have fallen by 2.31 per cent – not a great look from a party that identified higher wages to offset higher living costs as a major reason for electing them.

...
Albanese was elected in May 2022. This means that the first quarterly datapoint relevant to an analysis of electricity price changes under his administration is that of June 2022.

For that quarter, the ABS estimates the number 127.2 to represent the average electricity price across Australian capital cities.

The latest data we have is for the September quarter of last year. The ABS has published an electricity index number of 150.3.

By doing a simple percentage change calculation, divide 150.3 by 127.2 and subtracting one, I calculate an electricity price rise of 18.2 per cent.

All caused by mass uncontrolled immigration that we never voted for.
Both parties kept it off the political agenda.

Without a Company or Business, there would be no jobs for your greedy Unionists.

In America, where workers get paid low wages and need 'tips' - Unions are a justified entity.

...but in Australia, where the wages are very high 'in comparison', Unions are just ripping the system off for Workers.
There needs to be an entity for Customers - its so bad here because of the Union's demands on Businesses.

You were always happy to take the pay rises you didn't earn.

You idiot - the wages & conditions are higher in comparison to America because of Unions.

You think Unionism in America doesn't strive for the same sort wage & conditions outcomes?

btw Customers do have an entity for complaints.... it's called the Office of Fair Trading or Consumer Affairs depending on which state you live in ...... & I don't mean the usual "delusional" state you are often in.
