Jury finds Trump must pay $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll

A jury said that Donald Trump should pay $83.3 million in damages Friday, an eye-popping sum that marks the sharpest legal setback for a former president now entangled in multiple criminal and civil cases while he campaigns for the White House.

The verdict was the second time over the past year that a jury has awarded E. Jean Carroll millions of dollars in damages from Trump for his defamatory statements disparaging her and denying her rape allegations.

Here are the key takeaways from the defamation trial and verdict:

Another jury ruled against Trump: The nine-person jury awarded Carroll $18.3 million in compensatory damages. It was the punitive damages, however, that landed Carroll such an astronomical sum: $65 million. During the trial, Carroll’s lawyers told the jury that Trump should be punished with a large number in damages so that it gets him to stop his defamatory behavior.

Now it's off to the appeals courts.....start at the bottom & work yer way up........some think 10-15 years isn't out of the question.

She's 80 years old now.

I would have to think her seeing anything before her 90th birthday would be cause for her to celebrate....if she's still breathin'.....if she still remembers why she has to.

This cynicism is not like you, Panther. You're a law-and-order man, a constitutional scholar.

A jury of the big fella's peers have just told him to put up, and he will. That's the law, under your beloved constitution. Justice has been restored.

You haven't changed your mind on that, have you?

Once again, you seem confused.

This court case was not about whether Trump raped her or not - that's already been established in a previous court case. He did.

That part was over back in May: a jury found him responsible for sexually abusing Carroll and then defaming her by claiming she made it up, and he did not appeal the decision - he only appealed the amount of damages to be paid.

This recent court case is about further damages he must pay for continuing to defame Carroll - the sexual assault liability has already been established.

The fact that he raped her is not in question - it's only how much he has to pay in damages which is in dispute.

Donald J. Trump is a rapist according to a jury of his peers, a judge, and the law.

You support and defend a known rapist.

One can only imagine why.

Of course Trump will continue defaming Carroll and everyone else involved in the case....I doubt he will pay Carroll a penny until he is forced by a court order!!!

It's hard to say why, Greggery, but one thing we know: Panther has abandoned his long-standing adherence to the rule of law.

It's game-on. Anything goes. As Panther's DL says, he is allowed to terminate all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.

So yes, if a jury of the big fella's peers orders him to pay 83 mil, Panther's response is to throw more lawyers at it and find a new judge, preferably a friendly one.

DL can then get elected, get himself out of it, and tell E Jean to go get fucked.

Again.

That's how Panther's beloved constitution works, you see. If you have anymore questions on this subject, look over there - Hunter Biden lied on his gun form.

Even-Steven, no?

   LOL...

You seem to have forgotten the now-disgraced former president
will be 78 this year Panther.

It could well be that due to his current poor health, coupled with
the stresses of facing his mounting criminal charges, plus the
millions of dollars he'll be paying in financial penalties will take
him out within your imagined 10-year time span.  It's quite
possible that Ms Carroll could actually outlive him.

Whatever, this landmark decision simply adds another justification
for rational Americans to walk away from the Republican party come
November.   Captain Bonespurs is looking more unelectable as
each day passes.

Quote:
A professor of Neurology at George Washington University, Richard E. Cytowic, says he believes there may be legitimate concerns over President Donald Trump's "forward-listing posture".

"While most frequently observed in Parkinson's Disease, the bent posture so evident in Trump may also be seen in Alzheimer's Dementia, movement disorders of the basal ganglia, and as the side effect of certain medications," Cytowic says. "Also noted are the sudden, jerking movements of Trump's right arm. Since they occur only on one side, the prefix 'hemi' is applied, while 'ballistic' means sudden or flinging in the manner of a projectile.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Io3VI5a80

"Trump's hemiballistic arm movements are evident in news clips from Memorial Day at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as are his uncontrolled swaying and forward tilt. He is seen to grab his wayward arm with the left one in an effort to keep it under control.  To a neurologist, his way of walking, posture, and jerky movements are concerning and in want of explanation".

Of course, the answer to that is simple: you get what you pay for, and Donald Trump doesn't pay his lawyers.

Remember Joe Tacopina?  His bills haven't been paid.

Joe Tacopina, an attorney for Donald Trump, has withdrawn from the former president’s legal team, according to court documents filed on Monday.

Mr Tacopina was representing Mr Trump in two major cases before his resignation. He filed his withdrawal in each case on Monday. His resignations come just one day before a trial begins to determine the damages Mr Trump owes E Jean Carroll for defaming her in 2019.

Mr Tacopina told The Independent he is not commenting on the reasons for his withdrawal at this time.

Also because the good Lawyers all know that Trump does not pay his lawyers and that they likely end up in prison, disbarred or both.

Excuse I? He didn't get away with it, dear. He's just been ordered by a jury of his peers to pay $86 mil. And do you know?

That's not for the rape, that's for the locker room talk. You see, the big fella could have just listened the first time round. $5 mil? Oh-er, I'd better learn to, you know, emotionally regulate. That's what the Superior Man would do. Aquascoot said.

But no, he nashed and he railed and he sicked his base onto E Jean even more. The jury of his peers were perplexed. Here's an ex-prez, they said, and he can't even shut up after legal advice?

How did he go in governors' meetings during covid? How about the Joint Chiefs of Staff?

If anyone on the jury knew, they would have said the big fella didn't go well. He'd go to the fake news and bitch. At one point, he even said the head of the joint chiefs should be executed for treason. You get that.

Like E Jean, Mark Milley needed round the clock security too - like the judge in this case.

Because of all that, the jury made their peer pay a huge amount, just to get him back. Suck on that one, sir, they said. Karrna's a bitch.

Anyway, that was the easy one. Four more trials to go. You're right, dear.

One really shouldn't laugh in the face of a jury of one's peers.

Most impolite, no?

Just between you and me, Panther, I don't think the big fella's too happy about the 83 mil. He keeps complaining about it. E Jean's thinking of launching a new suit.

Are you still donating to the Save America superpac?

All funds go to paying off the big fella's legal settlements. You'll be contributing to Alina Habba's Trump Tower apartment too.

The commentators are saying he would have done a better job representing himself. All Alina had to do was shut him up, but she wasn't much help. The jury didn't take too well to her defence, as you can see. Why?

It's hard to say, but the argument that sicking the Proud Boys onto E Jean is a first amendment right didn't go down too well. The argument that she should be criminally charged for borrowing her dad's old gun didn't wash to well either.

That's the second amendment, isn't it?

Incorrect. When you're in a court, it's the worst defence possible to say the law doesn't apply to you. The judge begs to differ, strikes it from the record and tells you to sit down.

Nor can a prez issue an executive order to escape damages. The civil courts are outside presidential decreees, as per Panther's beloved constitution.

The US has a thing called the Separation of Powers, you see. Back when you were a noble Desanctis supporter, you were all for it.

Still, when the Superior Man is given lemons, he makes lemonade. Hand on the tiller, steady as she goes. Stable, reliable, unwavering in his command. He bounces out of bed with a plan. Take that, leftards.

He then throws it all away when trends change. That's the SM for you, no?

He's such a trendy.

He can't even stop criminal trials from proceeding. DL's lawyers will be in court in Manhattan and Fulton County fighting his minor bookeeping errors and RICO charges well before January 2025 and possibly even after.

By then, we'll possibly have a verdict on the federal counts or be well underway. A pardon would be unthinkable. How do we know?

They will indeed. And unlike Mr Trump, a grand jury will throw them out if there's nothing to find.

Do you remember Ob-ama? There he was pretending to be prez, and the big fella had investigators over in Kenya coming up with stuff that will blow our minds.

So when would he be releasing it?

Oh, soon, he said. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Anyway, when nothing happened, we got wind of a child sex trafficking ring in Chicago led by none other than Hillary Clinton, do you remember?

We'll see, we were told. It may just be a rumour, we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Then it was Sleepy Joe. Mr Trump got on the phone to Zalensky. He'd heard Hunter Biden had been over there getting into all sorts of corruption. If Mr Trump could just ask for a favour - he wanted an investigation - or an announcement at the least. Oh, and if you could look into that Crowdstrike thing...

That was a story that Ukraine IT companies maybe had Hillary's private emails on one of their servers. If Zalensky could look into that, Mr Trump might give him some congressional military aid, we'll have to wait and see what happens.

It was a perfect call, remember. After all, Zalensky didn't hang up in disgust. Anyway, there was no quid pro quo and that was that. Mr Trump handed over the cash when it made the news.

So yes, there could be quite a few court cases coming the big fella's opponents way - or not. One thing we know:

We'll have to wait and see what happens.

You don't get out much, do you?

Trump has been made to comply with the court findings.

He's already paid the original $5 million to the court.

And indeed, even to take the appeal for the $83.3 million, he’s going to have to at least put up a bond of 20% of the amount.

So, he's already complied to the tune of more than $20 million.

You have absolutely no idea how the law works, do you?

Legal witch hunt is only making Donald Trump stronger

Donald Trump’s bad week on the personal finances front is about to become a lot worse.  The $US83m ($126m) a Manhattan court has told him to pay his sexual assault accuser E Jean Carroll could be small change compared with the penalty he’s likely to face for allegedly exaggerating the value of his home.

If presiding judge Arthur Engoron follows the prosecution’s recommendations, he will fine Trump $US370m and destroy the Trump organisation, banning both it and Trump from operating in the nation’s third-largest state and its financial heart.

Both cases stand out for their political motivation and extreme penalties. In the longer run, they will sap respect for the US judiciary and boost Trump in his bid for the White House.

Take the fraud case, brought by the New York Attorney General Letitia James, who was elected to office in 2019 on a promise to investigate and prosecute Donald Trump.  The alleged fraud, revolving around claimed value of his home Mar-A-Lago, created no victims. Trump said it was close to $US1bn, the judge said it was closer to $US27m.

No banks or insurance companies said Trump’s valuation affected their business decisions. All loans were repaid, and no one lost any money.  It’s hard to imagine a better case of “show me the man, and I’ll find the crime”. If a state attorney general’s office is intent on finding a crime, they’ll find one, such is the vast proliferation of laws that blight modern nations, guaranteeing there’s always something someone has allegedly done wrong. Indeed, Associated Press determined Trump’s organisation was the “only big business” in 70 years of NY business fraud cases to have been “threatened with a shutdown without a showing of obvious victims and major losses”, in a research note published on January 29.

“The only case the AP found of a business dissolved under the anti-fraud law without citing actual victims or losses was a relatively small company closed in 1972 for writing term papers for college students,” it said, highlighting the gratuitous, vindictive nature of the penalties demanded.

The defamation case is perhaps more ludicrous, emblematic of a #Metoo movement that risks beclowning itself. Inexplicably, given not a shred of evidence of wrongdoing existed beyond one person’s word against another’s, a Manhattan jury last April found Trump sexually assaulted E Jean Carroll in 1995 or 1996 (she couldn’t remember which year the crime supposedly occurred) in a fancy department store.

Carroll, a high-profile advice columnist who regularly appeared on TV, didn’t seek justice until 2019, when she broke the allegation against Trump, not by going to the police or even a friendly journalist, but in her book What Do We Really Need Men For?, becoming a darling of the anti-Trump movement.

Trump denied the allegations in 2019 and publicly called her a “whack job” whom he “had never met”, comments that were later ruled defamatory. Carroll stated on top-rating CNN with Anderson Cooper that same year that most people thought rape was “sexy”.

Carroll said in sworn deposition that she decided to take legal action only after bumping into trenchant Trump critic, lawyer George Conway, at a Manhattan cocktail party hosted by scion of the anti-Trump forces, Molly Jong Fast, according to an investigation by Washington journalist Byron York.

Trump lost and was fined $US5m, in a case helped along by the passage in 2022 of New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which allowed individuals to sue for sexual assault regardless of whether the statute of limitations had long since passed. He continued to deny the allegation and was fined again, this time $US83m.

At least that award was more consistent with the equally ridiculous punishment meted out to former Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani, who was ordered to pay two women in Georgia whom he had accused of electoral fraud a combined $US148m.

Con'd

Were these juries of his peers, as Trump’s cheering detractors’ claim? More than 86 per cent of Manhattan residents voted for Joe Biden in 2020, more than any other part of the US except Washington. Later it also emerged tech billionaire and top Democrat (and Nikki Haley) donor Reid Hoffman was paying Carroll’s legal fees. As columnist Bret Stephens of The New York Times pointed out this week: “We now have a situation in which a socially unpopular figure can be accused – in the jurisdiction where he is hated the most – of a heinous crime without having any realistic means of defending himself, because the alleged crime dates back decades and any kind of forensic evidence is long gone”.

The American left cheered as a rich old lady was made even richer by being awarded 1389 times the median full-time annual wage of American workers ($60,000), a vast sum few could imagine earning in a lifetime.

Apart from being an insult to ordinary people, most of whom receive no compensation for their suffering, real or imagined, such awards corrupt society, encouraging lawyers to encourage individuals to fake grievance for financial gain. Most would love to be defamed for even a fraction of that grotesque sum. Others might question the value of their tax dollars paying for a judiciary to pursue victimless crimes of leading presidential candidates.

The two cases have also undermined the validity of the more serious federal indictments against Trump over election interference and classified documents, allowing his supporters to more readily dismiss them all as part of a lawfare campaign.

They might bankrupt him, but they could also deliver him the White House again.

I tend to agree with this comment:

The absurdity of these cases certainly cements existing support for Trump, I doubt they initiate much new support.

What will get Trump new support and probably the Presidency is the apparent need of urgency to address the flood of refugee, illegal and desperate migrants that have been flooding across the southern border for three years, the absorption into the country has reached critical mass and is causing problems in many major cities and rural centers....every voter is now effected in some way by being displaced for accommodation, access to services, increased crime rate etc etc....the strain on city services is immense.

This is all due to Joe Biden when on day one with the stroke of a pen, executive orders reversing the existing Trump administration policies that had been working efficiently to control the Southern border.....Bidens refusal, or plain belligerence to not reverse these executive orders with another stroke of the pen to reinstate existing laws is apparent to many voters that will turn to Trump as their only option to address the flood of migrants affecting the majority of taxpayer citizens and voters.

Then there is the issue of geopolitical strife and threats to the US, possible war, also caused by Biden administration policy to reverse sanctions and ease policy on Iran, making Iran rich again and able to fund anti West proxies, a lot of voters also understand this, some will also gravitate to Trump and Trump policies as the only solution.

Bidens belligerence and poor decision making and lurch to the extreme left and the effect on voters of this will get Trump much more support than the court cases, they only cement mostly existing support as existing supporters have always felt there was an "out to get Trump at all costs" section of powerful people.

Trump should win......at the request of the voters.....to fix the issues that are apparent to many that are affecting many adversely.

He had 4 years to fix things, and all he did was make things worse.  Much, much, much worse.

If he gets into the White House again he won't be doing anything about immigration, the economy, healthcare, or anything else that would benefit the American people.

He'll spend 4 years going after his political enemies and planning how to remain in the White House for the rest of his (short) life.

If you don't realise this, you've learnt nothing about the rapist in the last 8 years.

Iowa Charges God With Hate Crime For Casting Satan Into Lake Of Fire

DES MOINES, IA — Polk County prosecutors have formally charged God with a hate crime and third-degree criminal mischief for casting Satan, that serpent of old, into the lake of fire.

"Other than leading angels in rebellion against God and working to twist all that is good into evil, Satan has never done anything to deserve being attacked in such a vicious manner," said Polk County prosecutor Mitchell Radcliffe. "Plus, look at this nice statue - Satan is just a poor red man with horns and goat legs. He's the minority of minorities. Iowa will simply not abide the Most Holy God doling out judgment like that."

Prosecutors argue that the Lord of Creation was in the wrong for casting Satan out of Heaven because it was "mean" and a "violation of religious freedom". The Son and Holy Spirit have so far not been charged. According to court records, God is required to appear before a judge on March 3 or face a hefty fine of $1,500.  "No one is above the law," said Radcliffe. "Here in Iowa, religious rights take precedence over any sort of 'God'."

A spokesperson for the Most High God reported that He would graciously not appear in court so as not to destroy the entire courthouse and everyone inside.

Not satire. Possibly a parable.

You know, for a Desanctis supporter.

It might help if you used a safe word. A little more reverence could help too.

Oh, I don't think the big fella chuckled when he heard $83 mil, dear. I think you'll find he was most toosh.

Let's add it up, shall we?

$5 mil for the first one.

$86 for the second.

New York's asking for $360 mil for the fraud. Engoron's already said guilty and they've upped it from the original $260, so that's the minimum.

5 + 86 + 260 = 351. $351 mil.

BF's already stumped up the 5. He's going to struggle to find 86. And he is most certainly not going to have $351 mil lying around, I can assure you of that.

BF would be lucky to have that amount in total assets. The golf clubs, the buildings, the lot. He doesn't own all these places outright. Many have debts, mortgages and various silent partners. The New York case certainly showed that, eh?

Engoran is almost certain to ban him from doing business in New York, so hussling's out. There's the politics business - the superpac's doing nicely, with all the chumps slinging in, but he can't do that indefinitely. He's only got one election left in him before he gets banged up.

Eric and Donnie are a weight around his neck - useless. He has to cop the fraud rap, they can't even do that.

As usual, the big fella has to take the fall. Typical.

Engoran's going to announce the result any day now, dear, so that's that. The Don will appeal, but he'll required to front a bond - the money in full.

All $351 mil.

Alina's out, she's interviewing for jobs as we speak. I doubt she'll get a spot on Fox. The big fella's already signalling his displeasure. He'll stiff her on her bill, and like all the other lawyers, she'll have to sue to get her fee.

Mike got his $3 mil, Rudy's pushing for his $2, and there's a dozen more holding out their hands for his cash.

We're up to a good $400 mil now, and we haven't even started on the four indictments.

No, Panther, your DL is not having a chuckle - not even close. When the business goes into receivership, he'll most likely be forced to file for bankruptcy - like Rudy.

I think it's a smart move.

You?

Let's add it up, shall we?

$5 mil for the first one.

$86 for the second.

New York's asking for $360 mil for the fraud. Engoron's already said guilty and they've upped it from the original $260, so that's the minimum.

5 + 86 + 260 = 351. $351 mil.

They don't allow Chapter 11 Bankruptcy here in Australia, but a great deal in the good ole USA is Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, which is alive & quite well, & is the easiest way to shut down all debt collection, be they private or through court order.

When Chapter 11 Bankruptcy is granted the debtor can make scheduled, reduced (small) payments after any & all appeals have been completed, possibly many months, sometimes years, down the road. Such payments will also be based on any award reductions the appellate courts may have made along the way.  ;)

I see. So that's over $25 mil already, forgetting all his legal fees, many of which he still owes but is refusing to pay.

Excuse I, Panther, why would your DL be having a giggle?

The judge is stalling. He said he'd try to have a ruling by Jan 31, although he also said we'll have to wait and see what happens.

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/01/11/trump-fraud-trial-closing-arguments-in-new-york-court.html

Waiting's not good, Panther. Every day that goes by, Engoran is writing more and more words to justify taking more and more dollars.

DL is not happy - far from it. The only reason he's running for prez is to hold off spending the rest of his life in jail.

That's your candidate, Panther. He's your law and order candidate, no?

Pundits are predicting a well-over $370 mil settlement. There is also the criminal question of the big fella's witnesses' perjuring themselves during the trial.

https://youtu.be/BuhOAmnxda0?si=jC_BTta0X8mXhfpo

Forbes estimate the big fella's total net worth to be around $2.6 bil. They also assert that he has lied to them consistently over the decades, so it's hard to tell.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wealth_of_Donald_Trump#:~:text=The%20net%20worth%20of%20Donald,and%20inheritance%20from%20his%20father.

$2.6 is an estimate only. The big fella could be a little bit richer or poorer, but one thing we know: his days as a New York boardroom hussler are over.

Yes, he will lose a good sixth of his wealth in fines and fraud settlements. Yes, some of his businesses are struggling, the failed media platform Truth Social losing more than $31.6 mil since it launched. Yes, his legal bills keep racking up, spending over $50 mil on lawyers last year alone, all billed to the chumps' political donations.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/31/politics/fundraising-trump-legal-fees-pacs/index.html

But what's going to be really tough is losing his right to do business in New York. This will wound the big fella deeply. Previous cases like the charity fraud ruling, the Trump University class action settlement and even the 11 corporate bankruptcies cut, but this one will infect. There will no longer be any doubt whatsoever, that the big fella is, as ruled, a fraud.

So Panther, I'm curious. Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?

He's a disgusting rapist, yes.

He doesn't get to choose whether he pays the money or not.

If he didn't pay the $5.5 million with cash, the court would have sold off his assets to raise the funds.

He can't escape justice.

He will now have to pay the $83.3 million to the court too, unless he can secure a 20% bond/deposit from a financial institution willing to lend the rapist such a large sum of money (almost $17 million).

If he can't secure a bond, and he doesn't have $83.3 million in cash available, the courts will start selling of his rat-infested hotels.

And they won't be sold at a premium - it will be a fire sale like no one has ever seen.

Fun times ahead, my friend.  Fun times ahead   :)

A lot of people are saying that, dear, it's so unfair. It might be best if the big fella was sentenced, locked up, sodomised, etc. This, you see, would expose the deeply inequitable two-tiered system of justice in America. It would act as a "cautionary tale". After all, if they can come after him, they can come after you, no?

You've always been consistent on this, Aquascoot. You blame the system, the layers of interstitial inequality - race, class, gender, etc, the whole host of human rights problems and systemic injustices, it's so unfair.

If we reflect on the big fella's life and all the insurmountable obstacles, it becomes clear. There were parenting problems, developmental issues, difficulties adjusting, fitting in and mental health factors, we can hardly blame the big fella for all that. A stern, disciplined father; a dutiful and devoted mother - a toxic recipe for disaster as you have always pointed out.

When we weigh things up, it is astounding the big fella managed to adjust so well at all. The 60s were a terrible time, no? The Vietnam war, race riots, student protests and shootings, it was shocking. Then the 70s with those discos, parties and licentious behaviour with all sorts of depraved things going on, completely inappropriate.

People like Jeff Epstein, can you imagine?

He was a great guy to party with, actually, even if he did like his girls a little on the young side. Anyway, despite these challenges, the big fella thrived. He even managed to succeed. He invested his father's money, married his lovely first wife, bred children. Ivanka was hot - he would have dated her if she wasn't his daughter.

But the casino business wasn't kind. The regulators were mean. The bankers were globalists, putting America last. The tabloids gave him hell - according to John Barron, anyway. They all turned on him in the end. Typical.

The Superior Man has a tough life, it's not fair. He's a bit of a victim. Personal responsibility? Never ever. The buck stops with the chodes, who as we all know, live lives of pure garbage.

You're right, Aquascoot. As a modern myth, the big fella's story is deeply tragic, a "cautionary tale". The big fella is a victim, like so many other Real Americans.

When you think about it, the courts should really be compensating him, no?

You know, like how Ivana Trump "accidentally" fell down the stairs and ended up dead & buried in a third rate golf course owned by alleged child rapist Donald Trump.

Triumphant Trump lost the erection, Bobby. The first one-term prez since GW Bush.

He's just been done for rape- again. He's under four criminal indictments, facing up to 200 years in jail. He's just been done for corporate fraud, is about to be fined hundreds of millions, and by next week, should know if he'll be allowed to own his own business.

Triumphant Trump he is not. He's the biggest failed prez America ever had.

Triumphant?  :-/

He lost the popular vote in 2016.

Lost it again in 2020.

Lost the Senate.

Lost the House.

Lost the White House after one term.

Lost more than 60 court cases in regards to his stolen election lie.

Lost the E. Jean Carroll case, and is now forced to pay out nearly $90 million.

How is he triumphant, Bobby?

I'm curious.

Oh, I know. Panther was quite specific. He'll never have to pay, he'll win on appeal, etc, etc.

I guess Panther will be appreciative of America's excellent system of justice, yes?

This was a triumph for Panther's beloved constitution. It doesn't matter how rich you are or how many top-notch lawyers like Alina Habba you can afford, all Americans are subject to the rule of law, one nation under God.

You can see the colour-coded sans-serif font and the chuckling Mr Trump as we speak, no?

Another great day to be alive   :)

Failed former President Trump posted a nearly $92 million bond in a New York court on Friday to appeal the $83.3 million in damages a jury ordered him to pay to writer E. Jean Carroll for defamation by denying her sexual assault allegations.

Why it matters: It's another major financial blow for the GOP presidential frontrunner/rapist, who faces a separate $450 million fine in New York's civil fraud case over his business practices.

Details: Trump's bond payment was underwritten by insurance company Chubb, an international insurance provider based in Switzerland.

Under the bond terms, Chubb will only secure the appeal of the $83.3 million judgment and not any future appeals.

So, did Chubb pay $92M to the court on Trumps 'behalf'?
They would have demanded collateral, eg, ownership deeds over some of his properties.
This means trump has not used his own money, he does not have enough cash on hand so has to borrow it.
For this arrangement, the interest rate would be high.  Short term, high risk, large amount to a person who is in a bad predicament, is untrustworthy and few companies would deal with him.
He is high risk and if it turns sour will drag Chub through every court he can to stop them recovering their funds.

Financially, very interesting.

What Idiot Backed Trump’s Bond in E. Jean Carroll Trial? This One.

"It turns out that Trump may have called in a major favor: Court records filed Friday show that the bond was guaranteed by the Chubb Corporation, an insurance group.

"In 2018, Trump appointed Chubb’s CEO Evan Greenberg to a White House advisory committee for trade policy and negotiations."

Ah.

Quid pro quo is a Latin phrase used in English to mean an exchange of goods or services, in which one transfer is contingent upon the other; "a favor for a favor". Phrases with similar meanings include: "give and take", "tit for tat", "you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours", and "one (tiny) hand washes the other".

"Trump only just managed to make his deadline to post bond. He had to post and then appeal by March 11, or Carroll’s lawyers could start collecting on damages. But his financial woes are far from over."
