Israeli F-35 fighter jets conducted air raid on the Iranian consulate building in Syria

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say seven officers have been killed in an Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate building in Syria’s capital, Damascus.

Brig-Gen Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of the elite Quds Force, and Brig-Gen Mohammad Hadi Haji-Rahimi, his deputy, were named among the dead.

Iran and Syria’s governments condemned the attack, which destroyed a building next door to the Iranian embassy.

Syria’s defence ministry said Israeli aircraft targeted the Iranian consulate building, which was on a highway in the western Mezzeh district of Damascus, from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights at about 17:00 local time (14:00 GMT) on Monday.

Syrian air defences shot down some of the missiles they launched, but others made it through and “destroyed the entire building, killing and injuring everyone inside”, the ministry added.

The Iranian ambassador, Hossein Akbari, said Israeli F-35 fighter jets “brutally targeted my place of residence and the consular section of the embassy, along with Iran’s military attaches”.

The standards with journalism have declined they're more like activists than reporters.

Israel did not bomb the Iranian embassy they hit the building next door to it. Apart from a bit of dust the embassy is undamaged and functioning.

I call bullshit on Syria shooting down anything the Russian air defences are crap they can't stop the F35 which has been flying over Syria at will.

Iran is likely to bomb the Kurds in Erbil Iraq and claim they're mossad agents. They might get Hezbollah to fire more rockets from lebanon.

Yemen might fire at more commercial ships they don't have much luck with that.

None of the Sunni Gulf states are going to back Iran in any war the Sunnis hate the Shia in Iran. The Gulf Arabs would be happy for Israel and the US to take out the shia rulers in Iran.

It was a consulate. 'Consular immunity privileges are described in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963 (VCCR). Consular immunity offers protections similar to diplomatic immunity.'

I think Bibi Netanyahu made a big mistake to hit that consulate in Syria –
Iran has up to 200,000 rockets aimed at Israel from Lebanon
and Hezbollah is waiting to fire them off.

Israel: GPS disabled and IDF leave cancelled over Iran threat

GPS is being blocked across swathes of Israel in order to disrupt missiles and drones, as tensions rise with Iran.

Iran has vowed to respond after a strike on its consulate building in Syria on Monday –
which Israel was widely believed to be behind - killed 13 people, including a senior general.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also announced it was halting all leave for soldiers serving with combat units.

It comes a day after reservists were called up to bolster air defence units.

Israeli authorities seem to believe an Iranian response is imminent and could come as soon as Friday,
which is Quds Day - or Jerusalem Day - the last Friday in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Will Israel survive?

Evidently, the strike took out the honchos who were coordinating and liaising between groups in the region- you know, Hezbollah, Houthis and Hamas. The probability was that these guys were meeting to plan something big.

The strike disrupted whatever was brewing and setback Iran's efforts. Iran will not be able to do much by way of retaliation for a while.

The political situation within its own borders is precarious and its ally, Russia, is bogged down in Ukraine and is probably telling Iran, "Not right now fellas, our hands are full. The best we can do is run interference for you at the UN."

Like the US in Vietnam, Israel's efforts in Gaza will probably be scuppered by internal and international protests more than anything else.

Anything is possible, but it would probably be a wrong move and dangerous not only for the Middle East but for the world.

Israel are a nation of ruthless thieves and fighters. A mob of 260 Jews stole AK-47 ammunition from peaceful, generous freedom-lovers and held on till death at their music ritual. Others refused to die until their homes burnt down. Hamas continues to reasonably ask for their ammo back, please.
