Title: Senate Estimates Committee
Post by lee on Jun 11th, 2024 at 12:27pm
So the Senate Estimates Committee was told that the Administrative Appeal Tribunal would be renamed to the Estimates Review Tribunal. The functions would remain the same, the cost? A cool 1 BILLION dollars. Rather than a Tribunal, roughly evenly balanced, there will be only be Labor appointments.

The A-G has sacked the Chief Justice of the Federal Circuit and Family Court from the panel recommend who should be made judges. He has also racked up delays of 2000 days in  appointing judges to the Division 2 Court. With one a delay of 14 months. He has also promised, but never fulfilled a top up of 10 new judges.

The Department of Workplace Relations, overseen by Tony Burke, has admitted to underpaying 201 staff. This is the very same Tony Burke who tells the business community to "just pay people properly". If DEWR can't get it right, what chance the employers?

From your reference - "Dreyfus is not alone in levelling this criticism at his predecessors. Non-partisan government watchers like The Grattan Institute congratulated the government on its decision to abolish the AAT, saying it was a potential “end to cronyism”. "

The Grattan Institute is NOT non-partisan. ::)
