Title: Ocean combat camouflage
Post by chimera on Jun 16th, 2024 at 2:25pm
China is getting aggro at sea but Oz is equipped. Australia's Navy has camouflage uniforms which are used by soldiers in forests or grasslands for close, visual combat. On ships, sailors are now hard to spot from 100 metres range but enemies may suspect the ship has a crew on board. (However, the Marie Celeste was at sea with no crew). Crew inside a boat will be hard to see due to the walls blocking direct vision. Muzzle loading cannon can fire 500m. but may be aimed at the missile-equipped destroyer rather than at a sailor. Many Chinese have weak eye-sight.
'It took several years to undertake research and trial the Maritime Multi-Cam Pattern Uniform before the design was finalised'.

Especially useful for submariners

If a PLA sailor lands on a sub and peers down the periscope, he may miss seeing the submariner. PLA have camouflage and are invisible. A tricky situation for both.
