Title: Kiwi PM on defence ties with Australia
Post by Armchair_Politician on Aug 16th, 2024 at 12:21pm
Maybe the Kiwis shouldn't have gutted their air force and they'd have something resembling a viable defence force. It was such a colossally bad decision to scrap their fighter jet squadrons in the RNZAF. As it is now, I reckon the Fijians could successfully invade NZ. The kiwis are completely reliant on Australia to defend them in the event of hostilities against them.

Tyranny of distance is no longer a safeguard... taken NZ a long time to work that out... in WWII NZ had cruisers and such...HMNZS Achilles at River Plate etc..  now it's got nuffin'...

One of the kid's mother's uncles served on Achilles - got photos of shells exploding around etc...

Australia is a good buffer zone for the Kiwi forward defence.
