No - those moves can't work - (for both puzzles) |

Doesn't work because King doesn't move knight on C8 takes Rook on A7 to remove the check. Quickly looked at about 6 options but none solved it. I never liked puzzles. All the solutions I see require white to make a wrong move. Suspect the bishop discovered check is involved but this is killed by a rook blocking or a check the other way. 3 moves work. Quote:
Knight on B6 takes Bishop on A4. Am well out of practice I cannot see the solutions and tired brain doesn't want to think too hard. |

OK - I'll give the answer to this one: White Queen moves to g6 - check. Only legal move is to take the Queen with the pawn. next move - Bishop takes pawn on g6 - checkmate. |

Always easy when you see it. Queen sacrifices always hide themselves. The other is: Black: Rook to G1 White: King takes Rook on G1 Black: Rook to F1 takes Knight Check on king plus discovered check from the Bishop Mate. |

that's true - in puzzles - always look for checks and sacrifices. ;) |

OK - the answer for this one.
Rook to g1 check. King takes Rook. Rook takes Knight - double check and checkmate. |

OK - the solution to this one: Queen to f8 check. King takes Queen Rook to d8 checkmate. Or if the King declines the Queen: King to h7. Queen to g7 checkmate. |
