    Secret Service agents fired at the suspect, multiple sources said. A local sheriff’s office says it has taken a person into custody after the gunfire at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.
    President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are both “relieved to know” that Trump is safe and have been briefed on the situation, according to the White House.
    The Secret Service said it is working with local authorities to investigate the incident. Officials are expected to provide an update soon.

Donald Trump was safe after gunshots were reported in his vicinity Sunday afternoon in Florida, his campaign and the Secret Service said.

Three law enforcement officials later said that a man with an AK-style rifle pushed the firearm’s muzzle through the perimeter of Trump’s West Palm Beach, Florida golf course as the Republican presidential candidate was playing a round, prompting the US Secret Service to open fire.

The person dropped the weapon and fled in an SUV, and was later apprehended in a neighboring county, the officials said. The officials were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The Secret Service said it was investigating and that the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. “The former president is safe,” the Secret Service added.

According to the Associated Press, the gunman pushed the muzzle of his rifle through the fence line at Trump’s golf course before Secret Service agents fired at him.

Law enforcement said the gunman was about 300 to 500 yards away from Trump.

“The golf course was partially shut down for Trump as he played, and agents were a few holes ahead of him when they noticed the person with the firearm, the officials said,” the AP reported.

“The person appeared to push the muzzle of the rifle through the fence line and that’s when agents fired, the officials said.” AP said.

According to reporters for The AP, there are several areas around the perimeter of Trump’s golf course where golfers are visible from the fence line.

It appears the gunman exploited a vulnerable part of the property’s perimeter.

“There are several areas around the perimeter of the property where golfers are visible from the fence line. News photographers learned those areas well so they could capture photos of Trump when he was golfing there as president.” AP reported.

The suspect ran out of the bushes and escaped in a black vehicle but he was arrested in Martin County.

Fox News host Sean Hannity said he spoke with Trump three times in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

Hannity said Trump was on the 5th hole about to putt when he heard “pop, pop, pop, pop” — within seconds the Secret Service pounced on the president, covered him.”

“You had snipers with tripods…long story short… the gun has been found, they have identified it as an AK-47,” Hannity said.

Hannity said that law enforcement used drone footage to identify the suspect getting into his vehicle after dropping his firearm.

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, formerly of Greensboro, was allegedly on a Trump-owned golf course with an AK-47, a GoPro camera and other items, concealed in bushes in what officials are calling an assassination attempt. The Secret Service fired at the suspect but did not hit him, and he fled the scene in a car. He was arrested in a traffic stop on I-95.

Social media posts allegedly belonging to Routh indicate he was a believer in COVID-19 conspiracy theories, and he had posted that he had voted for Trump in 2016.

I'm sure there are some agents who admire and who would vote for Trump. But I have to take my hat off to those who despise him and yet do their utmost to keep him safe, doing their duty no matter what they feel about Trump and his politics. One can only imagine how difficult it must have been for his Secret Service detail at the time, witnessing him side with Russia and Putin over his own intelligence agencies. They are forced to sacrifice everything for a person who refuses to sacrifice anything and, moreover, believes it is his right to exploit those who love America for his personal advantage.

The sense of betrayal they must have felt, knowing full well that they were still bound to take a bullet for a man they viewed as a traitor. They are forced to sacrifice everything for a person who refuses to sacrifice anything and, moreover, believes it is his right to exploit those who love America for his personal advantage. This is why I truly pity them.

I saw a video of Obama at a town hall meeting in the last few months of his presidency where he answered a question from a pro-gun person. He said he’d just been in a meeting with the FBI where they informed him of a number of ISIL sympathisers and he said he can put them on a no-fly list but because of the NRA and Republicans, he can’t stop them from going and legally buying a gun at a gun shop. This guy had a history of mental illness and weapons crimes and yet was still able to legally buy and own a gun. It’s just absolutely ridiculous.

Not sure this is concrete but a huge number of genuine republicans voted for Biden in 2020. Biden was the most republican vote on the table. The MAGA vote is not voting for or to the benefit of republicans.

They have advocated for a more liveable wage, albeit imperfect, and have pushed for improved healthcare access for all. Additionally, they are not seeking to bankrupt the country and its citizens by imposing a 20% tariff on all imports or an exorbitant 100% tariff on goods from China.

Trump has proposed deporting legal immigrants to countries they have no ties to, revealing either a profound unfitness for leadership or the severity of his cognitive decline.

Furthermore, he appears unwilling to engage with Harris in another debate, highlighting his cowardice.  How can he be trusted to stand up again world leaders if he can't even face up again a DEI woman and you lot love to call her?

His running mate has openly admitted to fabricating stories about cat memes as a tactic to divert media attention away from their complete lack of a coherent policy platform. That is, if we are to take them at their word that their agenda is not rooted in Project 2025.

Trump's motivation for running seems to lack any semblance of patriotism; rather, it appears to be an attempt to secure a self-pardon, thereby avoiding imprisonment for a lifetime of alleged crimes that have finally caught up with him.

So yeah, Harris and Walz factor in the needs of the people and their platform if you bother to read it from the DNC, is about bettering the USA for the people.

So yeah, Harris and Walz factor in the needs of the people and their platform if you bother to read it from the DNC, is about bettering the USA for the people. Trump's only consideration about the people is how he can exploit them for his own gain.  That's literally it.  You know it, I know it.

Trump has no clue how tariffs work or how they affect consumers. Not only would other countries retaliate by imposing/raising tariffs on the US, but the imposition of tariffs on other countries will simply increase the cost of products for Americans when the added cost is passed on to consumers. So in the end, the people hurt most by Trumps' brain fart will be Americans.

Up until now, both individuals have been staunch Trump supporters with mental health issues. Influenced by Trump's rhetoric, they internalised the notion that exercising their Second Amendment rights was a legitimate response to a so-called tyrannical government. Ironically, they now perceive Trump himself as embodying that very tyranny.

And what has been the Republican response, year after year, in the wake of every mass shooting?

"It's not a gun problem, it's a mental health problem."

Yet what actions have they taken, both during Trump’s tenure and since?

They have consistently voted against expanding access to mental health services.

What, then, have they expanded?

Access to firearms.

Now, we are faced with former Trump supporters, struggling with mental health issues, who have been repeatedly told by their political leaders that they possess an inherent right to bear arms in defence against tyranny.

They now find themselves with greater access to guns, but no support for their mental health struggles.

Disillusioned by Trump's presidency, they feel compelled to exercise the Second Amendment rights that have been so vigorously promoted to them, only now, it is Trump who they perceive as the tyrant.

Those who support this rhetoric cannot claim to be innocent victims. Much like Trump in his numerous legal battles, he and the Republican Party are facing the consequences of their own actions.

It is deeply troubling that such incidents have become normalised, much like the tragedy of school shootings.

Yet, perhaps, as with the justifications for spreading misinformation about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, this too is the price to pay for finally drawing media attention to the problem.
