Title: Gerontocracies - Threatening Societal Stability
Post by MeisterEckhart on Sep 30th, 2024 at 10:07am
With the roles of constitutional monarchs, religious leaders, executive heads of state and heads of government living deep into their advanced years, society's stability and the relevance of their respective decision-making are good arguments for age limits on leadership.

The reign of Elizabeth II created a constitutional gerontocracy that will not be resolved until the death, or abdication, of Charles III.

The Biden Administration has been plagued by questions about who is actually in control of the United States.

Like John Paul II before him, Pope Francis is increasingly looking more pathetic as a religious leader, as is the Dalai Lama.

Leadership should not be a contest among senior leaders not to die in office or resign, opting to hold on out of sheer egoistic refusal to accept the inevitable, despite their lost capacity to lead.

Leadership skills are generally most effective in the middle-aged.
