Title: DefenCell barrier system, as a flood barrier
Post by Yadda on Oct 11th, 2024 at 3:57pm

An item mentioned today,
on the ABC radio program,
             THE WORLD TODAY

DefenCell™ barrier system, as a flood barrier

It looks like some sort of light 'cavity' plastic structure,
which when filled with sand, is self-supporting.

Our strength is
your protection”

The DefenCell™ barrier system provides personnel and infrastructure protection in Military, Security and Environmental applications.

Lightweight, man portable and non-metallic with a small logistical footprint, it is available in various flexible and modular configurations from individual positions up to complete forward bases and can be deployed rapidly, with or without engineering support.

In both military and security applications it affords protection from small arms fire right up to VBIEDs and artillery.

In the environmental sphere, DefenCell™'s proven geocell technology makes it ideal for flood protection and ground stablisation.

Victorian flood victim 'first private resident' to import US military-grade protection for her home

......"I did think I should just get out, just sell. But my heart is here. It's too precious."

So she found a solution.

First resident to import military tech [DefenCell protective units]....

While floodwater rose on her property, Ms Browell watched as the South Australian State Emergency Service used
DefenCell protective units
instead of sandbags to shield homes.....

Perhaps if they left most of the deadfall in the upstream of the rivers it would reduce flooding downstream.

LOL

.......and perhaps Australia could import, and introduce to those rivers,
some north American beavers to help to keep all of that water upstream,
behind barriers built by the beavers ???      ;)

It works. It slows down the water, so there is less erosion. Slower waters don't fill to overflowing as much.

"We compared stretches of riverbank that had vegetation restored with those that had not. We paired similar sections of river for the comparison. We found that the reaches that had been cleared of native vegetation suffered much greater erosion than comparable systems where the vegetation had been restored over the past decade.

Where quality plantings of native vegetation had been established, there was between 80% and 95% less erosion. This meant that significantly less sediment headed downstream during the floods. There was also less damage to river channels and nearby infrastructure from flood waters, which are slowed by the vegetation."

Sounds like they've reinvented the sandbag.  :-?

Which could be good. Sandbags have to be filled with a shovel, so maybe something bigger which would be filled with a backhoe, would be both quicker and higher.

Sandbags eventually rot and stop working. Unless they are the new plastic derived ones. But we won't go there. ;)
