Title: Crusafulli off to a good start with this policy! Post by Armchair_Politician on Oct 28th, 2024 at 10:13am
David Crusafulli is to be sworn in today as the new Premier of Queensland, along with his deputy. The rest of his ministry will be announced later this week. One thing that caught my eye is his promise to change the law regarding juveniles and serious crimes such as murder and manslaughter, which will see them sentenced as adults. Good! Labor has been far too soft on crime in Queensland for a long time.

There are some negatives to this, but overall it's at the point where the proposed good these changes would make will outweigh the concerns. It will be interesting to see what the legislation looks like because I don't trust them not to try to slip other things into such a popular change. |

I think people in places like Townsville would like to see a government that is strong on law and order, not weak like Labor was. |

There are certainly differences between the experience down the south east corner vs what happens further north. It will be interesting to see if the gamble on Crusafulli and the LNP will pay off, given much of their platform outside of those key issues they outspent Labor on by many factors aren't in the best interests of the people and instead their donors. Time will tell. While this move is good, I wonder how long it will take for the rest of their actions to trigger full-on buyers remorse. |

I think each child crime should be judged on merit. These type of set in stone laws end up being misused.
The right always scream tough on crime but end up being tougher on non crime and innocents while the real criminals tend to still get away with it. Would be surprised if this ends up any different. |

Their untrustworthiness and past form are of genuine concern around these changes. Hopefully with the spotlight on it so much, they may, even by accident, do the right thing. |
