what people need to understand is that these guys are businessmen, not politicians
what will they do? simple 1 they will run washington like they are the CEO and deputy of a large corporation. they will go through the various departments and see who is value for money and who is not musk apparently spent 24 hours staright at X interviewing every employee down to the cleaners. at the end he had sacked most of the people thats a great business principle if you arent adding value to a system over and above your wage, you need to go 2 trump will deal with foreign powers the way a business deals with other businesses. no more dividing leaders into goodies and baddies just, who can we cut a deal with that helps our position and who cant we cut a deal with If trump can get oil out of iran delievered by somali pirates cheaper then he can get it from bass strait then thats what he will do If you want to get on with trump, do a deal , try to make it a win/win It will be the beginning of a new golden age for the USA if he can stick to this And we must expect more countries to go down this path Wars probably arent on the agenda. If 2 other countries want to "go at it" trumps position will probably be "how can we exploit the chaos and cut deals with the people they are not serving" MAGA is a business movement Ideology is for pussies Its time to hustle |

And therein lies the problem. Public servants are experts in government management, not making profit and forced to be accountable in ways that neither Trump nor Musk have ever had to do. It's why Trump so easily falls prey to corruption - kickbacks that are normal in business are illegal within government. It's noteworthy that Musk is not being given unilateral control of, whatever they imagine DOGE will be. Apparently, he's cohosting the fiasco with Vivek Ramaswamy. |

the dynamic is at an inflection point (biden actually said that :))
for the 462 government agencies growing at the rate of 5 new agencies per year. think of them as pedestrians in a city 100 yrs ago.the "old way of doing things", the "status quo" and think of trump and elon as 2 guys in a new automobile (a tesla) the old gaurd , the vested interests, the pedestrians originally had all the power. cars had to give way to people on foot . trump and elon had to give way to the old gaurd. However the person on foot who was originally portrayed as a victim of this bullying car, was very quickly turned into a fool who should get out of the way. jay walking laws were enacted very quickly. the whole rules flipped almost over night within a year, pedestrians were seen to be in error if they got in the way of this "new exciting force of power and status" we are at an inflection point and big government and red tape and woke ideology are going to go the way of the guy on foot. he gets out of the way or the new dynamic will simply roll over the top of him . |

https://billmitchell.org/blog/?p=62207 Austerity cultist Kenneth Rogoff continues to bore us with his broken record I was talking to a podcast yesterday and they asked me what might happen if Elon Musk and his gang close down a lot of government departments. While the Musk zealots might claim they are freeing the US of wasteful and unnecessary bureaucracy, the spending that runs those departments is necessary to sustain the current GDP growth and employment levels, given non-government spending choices. So if they scrap those departments and do not increase spending elsewhere to offset the chosen spending cuts then the US will likely fall into recession. While we might take the view that a specific area of government spending is wasteful according to our preferences and values, at the current time, that spending is supporting employment and income generation. ... So you better inform the DOGE duo they have to get the private sector to replace the 'wasteful' public sector with wealth creating activity which the public want, preferably while lifting the minimum wage. As has already been said: a country isn't a corporation. And you can't create enough business geniuses like Musk who can employ the entire nation. I predict it will be easier for Trump to get the hostages out of Gaza (and god knows that will be difficult if he doesn't offer Hamas a Palestinian state, and only threatens Hamas with total destruction as he did yesterday), than to create well-paying jobs for all Americans, with Musk in charge of the nation's macroeconomy. |

I would be a fool if that is what I said, but I didn't....so let's see if we can sort out where you went wrong. Bill Mitchell wrote: "at the current time, that spending (note: even if "wasteful" eg the dept of education which Musk wants to eliminate) is supporting employment and income generation. Bill was talking about all the spending and wages in current government departments, which Musk thinks he can slash without reducing the nation's spending (and output) capacity. If you slash government spending, you need to create alternative spending, or cause a recession. As Bill said (speaking of Rogoff's delusional economics): Apparently (according to Rogoff) those (like Bill) that hold to the most basic macroeconomic rule that spending equals output and income, and drives employment growth are “detached from reality”. Quote:
Public sector workers are paid to do work which the government thinks it needs performed, eg, to pay more more school and hospital staff. Quote:

Title: Re: Donny And Elon Post by thegreatdivide on Dec 3rd, 2024 at 10:48pm Frank wrote on Dec 3rd, 2024 at 10:12pm:
No it isn't. You don't want to read the book and learn, but it's very simple. A company is concerned with producing widgets, and making a profit while competing with other companies in private sector markets. A country is concerned with creating the infrastructure necessary for the companies to function efficiently; government doesn't need to "make a profit", it needs to create the conditions for the (hopefully) profit-making businesses to thrive. Krugman is correct in this instance. |

So, I sorted out scoot's error, now let's highlight your error. Krugman said "a country is not a company" - correct, of course. You said "economically it is" - in bold type, imagining you had to draw a distinction between a nation's economy and its culture (hence your superfluous definition of "economy"). A nation doesn't have to make a profit, unlike companies competing in the private sector. There's the difference - regardless of a nation's culture. |
