That's terrible - Victoria has been ruined by high Govt taxes and red tape.

I blame too many years of Labor Govts.

IQs are low here - people keep voting them back in.   :o

262 days in lockdown, the longest in the world.

Treating people as criminals for daring to walk outside.

Never going to be good for business nor did it actually achieve anything other than practice in building a East Germany communist  state in Australia.

People couldn’t escape fast enough!

More robbery on top of the new land taxes:

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/nov/04/victoria-probate-fee-increase-allan-government

‘Death tax by stealth’: Victorian government hikes probate fees by up to 650%

Fees to process wills to change from fixed rate to tiered system in move opposition says can’t be justified

Probate fees for estates valued between $500,000 and $1m would increase 180%, from $367.40 to $1,028.80, while estates between $1m and $2m would increase 250%, from $685.90 to $2,400.50.

Estates valued between $2m and $3m would have a new $4,801 fee imposed, up from $1,502.40.

Three new tiers for multimillion-dollar estates would also be introduced: $7,185.20 for those valued at $3m to $5m, $12,002.60 for $5m to $7m and $16,803.60 for $7m or more. With probate fees previously capped at $2,318.90, it represents up to a 625% increase in fees.

“This is effectively the imposition of a death tax by stealth,” he said.
“To have massive increases in the amount of money that grieving families have to pay when a loved one dies to get probate can’t be justified.”

He said the probate office would now rake in more in fees than it cost to operate.

The changes come after a review of the probate office by the Department of Justice and Community Safety, which was subject to community consultation but had a low participation rate.

Of the 124 participants surveyed during consultation, 94% were not supportive of an increase to probate fees, with the majority citing concerns about affordability, cost-of-living pressures, limited access to justice and recovery of costs. Victoria’s peak legal body, the Law Institute of Victoria, was among critics.

In its statement of reasons published online on Monday, the department acknowledged there could be “challenges” for executors and beneficiaries, who may have limited personal wealth – despite an estate’s significant assets – to pay the new fees.

It suggested they could take out a loan, use a credit card
or find a law firm that may cover costs and recover them from the estate later.

On concerns about the possibility of elder abuse, the department said it was “illogical in most instances to pressure someone to transfer their assets before they passed to avoid proposed probate fees” but was acknowledged “still a risk”.

And further robbery…. don’t miss this little beauty that will really bust many people….
A new empty house tax. Only in Victoria!

https://www.sro.vic.gov.au/rates-taxes-duties-and-levies/vacant-residential-land-tax-rates

1% of capital I noticed value of land.
Hence if it’s worth $500,000, that’s a whopping $5,000, on top of land tax.

This will hurt many because…some have a beach house, some have a house left to them via will and that  may require works, and person can’t afford to fix house is unable to be rented nor can’t be sold or in a township too far from any work.
Some elder folk go into aged care and the once family home is kept as is and not sold yet.
Some buy a property as investment and do renovations over a year (keeping it a year to pay 50% less capital gains tax.
Isn’t the whopping stamp duty upon purchase of said property enough!!!
And the annual council rates.
And the interest on loan amounts taken out to buy said investment property.

This current government has made Victoria bankrupt, they can’t handle money properly, and these extra taxes will not improve that! Since when does a leopard change it’s spots????

Thus the state ended up having the highest COVID deaths of all!

It was only because Victorians were the most defiant against Lockdown. Everyone else in other states were happy to comply. We had nutter Victorians come across like it was a big conspiracy, for them to be on the run from and they had their American rights to do so.

The supermarkets were full of people coughing and sneezing
and putting their snot covered fingers all over common places
like pay terminals.

The mask were not worn properly.

Not defiant… many just went along with it gladly like sheep… others said something  when enough was enough (just another 2 weeks turned into 7 months x 2)

Other states didn’t have it so bad and didn’t have a clue about Vic.
I know this because my daughter and my friends up in Qld asked “what lockdown?”
Life was easier going up there. Once I explained what restrictions we had… they were all stunned.
I spoke to the daughter’s neighbours, and the real estate agents.
They had very little clue.
The second long lockdown we copped… there was a couple weeks when borders opened up and daughter came down to visit for a week… but got locked down with us… for 7 months!!!
All water/gas/electricity on up there and by time she went back grass was 4 feet high because gate was locked and none could get through.

When she endured the lockdown Victorian style… she was shocked! She asked if she could visit friends… I said no you can’t, I said you can only go outside one hour, only one household member allowed to go to food shop, all shops, cafes etc are shut.
And… you can’t go further than 5 kms from house! And… you must wear a mask!
I said obviously you had it easier in Qld. She replied most certainly! And that now she knows how bad it was for us.

As for everyone coughing or sneezing on food Bobby…. I can’t say I saw any of that happening at times I went to do food shopping.

I do recall we were all avoiding each other … social distance and all.
Using hand sanitizer like nothing else!

That poor girl was trapped under Dan's communism.

People weren't coughing and sneezing on food - just in the air that we breathe.

OMG… as they say… but wait… there’s more… I’m horrified with this latest news.  :o

https://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/news/victoria/cfa-funding-victorian-government-strips-fire-authority-of-70m/news-story/dd22fbb02ec071d7e0b15563ceece542

Oh it’s paywalled…
Here’s a quick summary …

CFA funding: Victorian government strips fire authority of $70m

The Victorian government has secretly stripped the CFA of almost $70m, while pumping $1 billion into the union-dominated FRV.

Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria says Jacinta Allan’s Government has applied the “blow torch” to the CFA, stripping it of almost $70m.
The Victorian government has secretly stripped the CFA of almost $70m to fund other emergency agencies, as the United Firefighters Union strangles the supply of commanders and instructors needed to support volunteers.

What a laugh if it wasn’t so funny ….
Pilfering at every chance…..

Victorians and Queenslanders have a Free Settler history, unlike NSW with Convicts. Solitary Confinement came easy to NSW. 😝

South Australia was the only Colony freely settled. All the other colonies accepted convict settlers.  Tsk, tsk tsk... ::) ::)

I knew someone when solar first came out -

he was getting a 200% feed in tariff.   :)

Every 2 months he'd get money from the electricity company.   :)

Joh was the last decent premier i can think of.

trump like, a businessman before he went into politics

and then just removed all the regulations and let the cream rise to the top

most state politicians end up there because they were no good in the private sector

its a playground for failures

could you imagine Dan being put in charge of a private sector company. ::) ::) ::)
