All signs say yes.

It's really a straight thing, not a gay thing. Like "you're OK with this, right? It's not like either of us are gay."

They do it in Rugby League. Maybe in the women's codes too?

It's could be as simple as this: you only have to extend your arm a half metre to touch someone else's bum. So it's quick and casual.

Also if you attempt a handshake, first bump or shoulder hug with someone who's not expecting it (eg they're getting positive attention from most of the team) there's risk of damage to hands or head, all of which are important to actually playing the game.

A tap on the bum is the least likely of all contacts, to cause a team-on-team injury. It's totally rational and not a bit gay.
