Police say both were struck by sail booms overnight.

the massive Antarctic circumpolar winds and currents.
It's a dangerous ocean race and all the participants know that.

A Perth to Zanzibar race would be more exciting, especially when they're chased by negro pirates. That should sort the fast from the slow.
