Albanese was interviewed on a morning TV show today and floated his preference for fixed four year terms for the federal government, with elections taking place on a fixed date. Sounds to me like the way the US federal election is done, and I think it would be a great idea. I also agree with him saying three years is too short. If he put it to a referendum, I’d vote yes to a four year fixed term.

No -
3 years has been enough for Albo to stuff up our country - we have to vote him out before he brings in more millions of people with mass uncontrolled immigration and wastes more money - pissing our money against the wall. |

I agree that Albo needs to go - he is incompetent beyond belief and is ridiculously out of touch with the average Australian. Not surprising given he has never had a real job other than in politics. But I think that three years is a too little time to make plans and see them come to fruition, for better or worse. Beyond that, I do think that - whether it’s three or four year terms, we need to have fixed election dates to provide certainty. This whole circus Albo has got going where he’s started campaigning but has not announced the election date and is refusing to do so (even though he’s clearly settled on a date) is just ridiculous. |

Another bad idea from Tennis Albo. We have a Westminster system, not a presidential one. We are electing local representatives, not prime minister's (necessarily). We also have a compulsory voting regime. Se we do not need an election campaign to get the vote out by a certain date, as in fixed term jurisdictions. |

So the 4 year fixed term stretches to 5 years by the time the election is called? |

I don't like the idea of 4 years but the story is saying a pre set fixed election date. So no it does not get stretched. Just look at the US they are about to have an illegitimate convict insurrectionist for a President for a full 4 years. What a disaster. |

It should be a fixed term, either 3 or 4 years doesn't really bother me to much but it is worthwhile remembering that the less we turn them around, the less lifetime pensions we have to pay out.

Albo is either stark raving mad or is an astute statesperson who has introduced Australia to a new era of genuine equal opportunity and rights for all.... and by the same standards. He hath awoken the people from their long sleep nigh unto a living death, and filled them with a terrible resolve.

A good idea. However, I'd hate it if he was to benefit the first time it came into being. ;D
Four year fixed terms like the Victorian State parliament. Also have a full Senate election to match to remove the six year nonsense for Senators. have both houses elected at the same time and that should allow a government to do what it wants to do. If, after those four years of getting what you voted for is not to your liking, then kick the bastards out at the next election. 8-) |

I think the most important thing should be fixed election dates. Like it’s always on, for example, the first Saturday or March every three years or every four years. The government should not be able to do what Albo is doing - essentially starting the election campaign before everyone else but not officially announcing it yet. |
