Title: Is George Soros a oligarch? Post by Leroy on Jan 18th, 2025 at 2:16pm
Biden has warned of oligarchs taking over the country just after awarding George Soros the Presidential medal of freedom.
Some facts about Soros. Quote:

It seems strange to award a medal to someone you have just warned the people about. |

Hard to say, Leroy. Does Hillary use a private email server?

It depends on whether you’re after the echo chamber answer or the real one.
I’ll give you as close to a real response as I can. The short answer is no, George Soros is not an oligarch, though there is some overlap. An "oligarch" typically describes someone who wields disproportionate power and influence, often through wealth and connections, to significantly shape political, economic, or societal systems. While Soros doesn’t fit the traditional definition—most famously associated with post-Soviet elites, there are traits that make the comparison tempting. His vast wealth, political influence, and global reach undoubtedly mirror the hallmarks of an oligarch. However, his commitment to transparency, focus on democratic values, lack of direct political control, and his philanthropic priorities don’t align with the standard oligarch archetype. On that basis, no, he isn’t an oligarch in any meaningful sense. The echo chamber, however, would have you believe otherwise. There, he’s unequivocally an oligarch: a figure of unchecked wealth and power, advancing a globalist agenda, entangled with Clinton connections, and perpetually embroiled in dark conspiracies. Go full MAGA, and the narrative escalates. Soros transforms into something far worse than an oligarch, he’s recast as evil incarnate, a global puppet master, the hidden force behind politicians, and the infamous purveyor of adrenochrome conspiracies. As we lurch into yet another era of post-truth politics, you’re welcome to reject reality and opt for MAGA’s alternative facts if you prefer. The choice is yours. |

Oh look, Leroy's Googled headlines again.
Why don't you open up one of your articles and have a read, Leroy? Show us how many of those donations went to Republicans. |

What difference does it make if he donating to republicans or democrats. The topic is if Soros is a oligarch not if hes a republican or democrat. |

An oligarch is, by definition, connected to an autocrat. If there are political choices, it's not an oligopoly. Some may even call it democracy. You? |

It is possible but I have insufficient data to really judge either way. I think that it is clearly shown that there are several on the right who meet the criteria, like Musk for instance. He has clearly benefited from his political actions. |

Yes this is true - Soros is an individual who has significant influence in democrat politics. This would qualify Soros in one leg of the requirement to be an Oligarch. The definition I prefer is the two barrel one where the required is to have influence and to amass wealth due to this influence. Your argument lacks the second requirement. Some definitions don't stress this approach. In fact Soros does not only not show an obvious profit driver under the democrats but he in fact does financially better under the republicans. He clearly benefited under the Trump tax cuts for the wealthy and will do so again. |

Musk has the power and is set to make billions from his positioning. It is clear cut. Soros does not seem to have the same profit connection. Maybe he does but nobody has pointed out how if he does. So Musk ticks all the boxes as a matter of known fact but with Soros we are still missing the required info to make a full conclusion. I cannot say Soros isn't just that I have not seen any clear evidence. |

Sorry probably put that poorly. He may not have done a lot we know about yet. He does from next week have a level of control over branches of government that do oversight on companies that he owns. He is also one of the warriors supporting further tax cuts for the wealthy - Tax cuts for himself. Musk benefited from the 2017 Trump tax cuts for the wealthy. |

it seems soros suffered a psychological transformation as a result of his experiences in the holocaust.
he seems very resentful and hateful towards those who have not "so suffered" and he seems to harbour a wish to sew chaos so that the citizens of the west can experience what he experienced in the camps. it is a reasonably common psychological pathology. hurt people want to "hurt people" his hope seems to be to harm the west by promoting various chaotic agendas BLM, trans nonsense, open borders, funding bail for crazy criminals all under the "veil' of social justice. a truly evil chappie who , hopefully, trump can demolish |

Musk doesn't need more money. There is no profit motive. Nor does Soros. It is about impact, not gain. For all rich people who enter the public domain. Those that are interested in money alone stay out the public, political domain. |

Agree. A Jewish Nazi collaborator turned open society funder. The way he made his money is the most unethical, predatory speculators way. He now manipulates politics with his ill-gotten money. He became a billionaire by speculation. He continues as a speculator in the political sphere. |

I see. You've got a different definition. Fake news, post-truth, no-speaka-da-English, all that. All good. So what's the University of Balogney's definition of oligopoly, dear boy? We know you studied English. You may even have taken classes in the original Greek, so I'm curious. Apart from sodomy, which social/political definitions did they cover? Anything relevant to our discussion here? Or were your qualifications for applying for your visa to Australia a complete waste of time? |

So why did he fund Republican candidates? Leroy struggled with this one. Like the old boy, he'd prefer to tweak with the definitions. And that's okay. Apart from Leroy's headlines, did you have a squiz at the articles? A bit of an ask, I know, but you did choose to weigh in. Do you think it's a stretch to suggest one reads what the evil chappie actually funds? Or are you just here to have a chuckle? |
