This success may mean that fusion as power source is no longer 25 years away, maybe 20 years away now?

[being cynical.....]
If Chinese scientists really have achieved this breakthrough,
then the method and technology which enabled it, will be a state [CCP] secret.

I find it difficult to believe that the Chinese [CCP] will want to reveal anything useful,
about this cutting edge science, to anyone 'outside of their influence'.



But then again, 'deep' secrets once known [once revealed],
have a habit of becoming 'common currency'.

e.g.
It didn't very take long for American nuclear technology secrets to become 'exploited' by the USSR.
[....after communist sympathizers in the USA, betrayed those American secrets, to the USSR.]

Science facts are like pebbles. Once someone invents something scientific other people can pick up those pebbles—some scientist.

Once the secret of nuclear fission was out other scientists could work it out too.
