Additional members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers were expected to be freed in the coming days. Defendants have also started to be released from the local jail in Washington, where several rioters have been held in recent years in a special area nicknamed the “patriot wing.” On Monday night, two brothers from Pennsylvania, Matthew and Andrew Valentin, were set free, only days after being sentenced to two and a half years each on charges of assaulting the police. “They helped break the police line by shoving a metal barricade into officers, and Matthew Valentin violently grabbed an officer’s neck,” prosecutors wrote in their sentencing memo for the men. “They followed that assault by stealing police batons and berating officers.” Aside from pardons and sentence commutations, Mr. Trump also ordered officials in his Justice Department to dismiss any cases against Jan. 6 defendants that were still moving through Federal District Court in Washington, where all of the proceedings have unfolded. On Tuesday morning, several judges there granted motions filed by federal prosecutors to drop Jan. 6-related cases, more or less without a fight. One of those cases — for three members of the same family — was in the middle of a jury trial when prosecutors asked the judge, Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, to dismiss it altogether. The three defendants — Kenneth, Caleb and Nicholas Fuller — had been charged with multiple counts, including felony civil disorder for taking part in a shoving match against police officers, prosecutors said. It's rare for a person in jail to have less guilt than the authority giving the pardon.
It's rare for a judge to be directed by a crim.
The judge can probably be charged with consorting with a felon. As can Albanese.

She's got her legal terms mixed up, Phil. It wasn't an insurrection, it was a revolution. You're allowed to do that under the Second Amendment of Panther's Constitution.

America is a republic. It's citizens have every right to take control of their House of Representatives and tell them which president to appoint. He has also gone around the Judges again by pardoning two police officers who were convicted for killing a man in a police chase that was unauthorised, two police officers who were found guilty by a jury of their peers. But apparently this isn't good enough for Trump, so he has pardoned them.

Judge Beryl Howell, who was the chief of the DC District Court at the time of the riot said, “No ‘process of national reconciliation’ can begin when poor losers, whose preferred candidate loses an election, are glorified for disrupting a constitutionally mandated proceeding in Congress and doing so with impunity. No ‘national injustice’ occurred here, just as no outcome-determinative election fraud occurred in the 2020 presidential election. That merely raises the dangerous specter of future lawless conduct by other poor losers and undermines the rule of law,” Howell added.

Howell, like several of the other judges in DC’s federal court this week, agreed to dismiss pending Capitol riot cases because Trump’s Justice Department no longer wants to prosecute them.

But Chutkan and Howell refused to grant the Justice Department its request for dismissal “with prejudice” for three Capitol riot defendants, including one who was a Proud Boys extremist group chapter leader. Instead, the two judges simply dismissed three rioters’ cases, leaving open the possiblity charges could be brought again later.

“In hundreds of cases like this one over the past four years, judges in this district have administered justice without fear or favor,” Chutkan also wrote. “The historical record established by those proceedings must stand, unmoved by political winds, as a testament and as a warning.”

Jacob Chansley pleaded guilty and served 18 months for obstructing police, carrying a spear into the US Senate, sitting in the Speaker's chair for selfies and obstructing the peaceful transfer of power during the only breach of the Capitol in US history.

He deeply regretted his actions and accepted his sentence. He admitted to threatening police and said he felt terrible for causing, as he put it, fear in others.

"I have no excuse," Chansley said. "No excuses whatsoever. My behavior is indefensible."

And not just that. "I am truly, truly repentant for my actions, because repentance is not just saying you're sorry," he said. "Repentance is apologising and then moving in the exact opposite direction of the sin that you committed".

Fair enough. I guess he's repented on his repentance. You get that, no?
