Colombian President Loses Game of Chicken with Trump, Offers to Fly Back Illegals on His Own Plane 6 Minutes Later

President Donald Trump is not the man to play a game of chicken with.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro learned that lesson Sunday in short order after choosing to test the newly re-elected U.S. leader's resolve.

How long until the left start up about this?.

They seem a bit scared to criticize Trump at the moment, they know the people are fed up and want this over with. Help or get out of the way.

The only South American country that could come close to chinning up to Trump is Mexico.

Opening its northern border to all who want to cross, a pause on actions against the cartels operating there and standing back while mom-and-pop home basement fentanyl makers send their product up north, are ways Mexico could disrupt the Trump Administration's southern border actions.

I think if Mexico eased on drugs it would give Trump cause to seal the border tight and he would.

No, the US-Mexico border has long been Mexico's chip in the big game with US administrations.

Any military or economically brutal action against Mexico will blow back into the US.

Dang - the conspiracy theories will be greater than those around the JFK hit (six men at least - trained etc, and who changed the route at the last minute to put his car right in the middle of the cross-fire from three directions?) ... now when the hit comes, it will be a toss-up between the drug cartels, the Mehicans, the Democrats, the Chinese, the Russians, Hamas and other ME nuts ... only one of which can take the prize...... I can't see any of those co-operating.....

I vote for a single crazed loner gunman who just happened to fire 3-4 weapons of different calibres from different directions at the same time.... cunning bastard ...

Trump's southern border policy coup requires massive initial public success with its low-hanging fruit first wave: the successful deportation of criminal illegal immigrants.

Mexicans know how to be poor, so US tariffs are not as terrifying to them as they are to Canadians.

US military action in Mexico will likely galvanise all Mexicans with firebrand patriotic zeal, rally South American countries to Mexico's cause and force an 'unholy ' alliance between the cartels and the Mexican government.

Any CIA action to overthrow the Mexican government would be the death knell of the Trump Administration.

Not terrifying to Mexicans or Canadians, seeing as the tariffs are paid by the US importers and then ultimately by the US consumer.

The average US consumers (70 million of them Trump voters) are the ones who will become poorer.

Canadian exporters would be hurt immediately. US consumers have the choice not to buy Canadian.

The clincher will only be where US consumers have no choice but to buy Canadian or Mexican.

I'm sure action like that will increase the powers available to Trump. If someone takes on Trump remember they all lose. Everyone now rely on Trump for security. Every time the UK say something dumb about Trump the more they embolden their own enemies.  Mexico need to understand they are fighting the guy fighting for them.

That's the image Trump wants to project, for sure...

What accelerated Trudeau's demise was that he had no political cache to stand up to Trump's threats. He looked weak which embarrassed the Canadian government and opposition... Trump took advantage of Trudeau's political dead-man-walking with his taunts of annexing Canada as the 51st state...

Mexico has long been aware of US imperialism and its tactics and has stood up to US intimidations before, where other nations have not.

Australia is a prime example of a country that has a bilateral policy of never saying no to a US president.

Trump is different though, more crafty. I noticed that Denmark have offered Trump anything he would like in greenland, new base no problem but sorry we dont want to sell.
Would not be surprised if the navy wanted a base in Greenland and Trump has said just watch and I'll have them begging you to put a base there. Wanted a base went for the whole island settled on a base.

He is hard to read and will have you tied up like a pretzel. Anyway Mexico will lands where Trump has planned.

What appeared to be political weakness by the Colombian President, was more likely political manoeuvring.

Had the Colombian president just acceded to the US unilateral decision to deport and repatriate Colombian citizens, he would have been subject to ridicule, perceptions of weakness and possibly accusations of having been bribed by the Trump Administration.

Having Trump threatening to impose punishing tariffs and sanctions on Colombia and Colombians, gave Colombians a clear picture of the options.

It also focused the heat of anger from Colombians onto the deportees who have brought disrepute to their country, and therefore will not be perceived as innocents - even if, under Colombian law, they are.

Finally, the Colombian president got to look compassionate towards Colombian citizens - innocent under Colombian law- by offering his presidential plane to assist in their repatriation.

That's bullshit

When Obama and Biden were Presidents they blocked runways didn't allow planes carrying illegals back home to land.

Trump threatened to stop financial aid in his first term they took the illegals back.

They were used to dealing with pissweak leftards Trump threatened tariffs so they caved and took the illegals back.

Trump has shown the rest of the world these illegals can be deported if your leader has a backbone.

Colombia had accepted 475 deportation flights from the United States between 2020 and 2024 — including 124 last year — putting the country fifth in total behind Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and El Salvador, according to Witness at the Border, an advocacy group that tracks flight data.

He probably has Trump developments in Pakistan. He definitely has irons in the fire in China.

As for Turkey, it's got not one Trump Tower, but two. Guess which country, along with Ukraine, managed to keep US aid.

Just so. Erdogan's having a right old chuckle. DL has just stopped aid to every country in the world bar Ukraine and Turkiye. We know he was dragged kicking and screaming to keep funding Ukraine, but Johnny Turk?

It's the only deal Trump knows how to make, one where he holds all the power and those across from him have everything to lose.

It's not really deal-making in the traditional sense.

That requires the US to remain a superpower.  That's at risk under Trump with his current actions over what feels like the last month, not just a week...

If he continues to alienate every neighbouring country, trading partner and ally with these tactics, if he ever has to negotiate anything with them on a level playing field, he's in a lot of trouble.

He's actually a terrible negotiates under those terms.  If he doesn't hold all the power, if he can't force their hand, he's cooked.

History proves you wrong, Trump had everything against him and he came out as the President.

If you give credit where its due then you respect yourself.

That's not making a deal, unless you're saying the election was rigged in his favour?

There are few if any deals he's made, at least publically, where he's been holding all the cards, unless you count settlements he's made to avoid conviction or other court rulings, but that's more of an accountability thing, for his criminal conduct.

So you don't think Trump made any deals to regain his power and influence to regain the POTUS.

I don't think many will have that opinion.

Try not to strut too much with moral indignation... loudest rooster one day, feather duster the next...

Both sides of Australian politics have been deporting criminal non-citizens for years. New Zealand has petitioned Australia multiple times to cease deporting criminal non-Australian NZ citizens, as the calibre of criminals sent back is often many times worse than those locally grown - their pleas have been unilaterally dismissed.

So you're saying he's beholden to those who helped him regain power and will need to push their agenda, rather than governing for the American people?

I agree.

We've seen who his executive orders have been benefitting so far.

I make deals all the time as I'm sure you do, but does that make us beholden to whoever we make a deal with. If your experience is you are now beholden to the other party of the deal then you really should not be commenting on the ability of others.

This is something I would expect from CNN, every single politician, businessman and workers make deals everyday and suddenly Trump making a deal means he did something wrong.

Name one politician that did not make hundreds of deals to get where they are.

"That is why I returned the US military planes that were carrying Colombian migrants."

He also added that his country would receive Colombians in "civilian air planes" and "without treatment like criminals".

Colombia had accepted 475 deportation flights from the United States between 2020 and 2024 — including 124 last year — putting the country fifth in total behind Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and El Salvador, according to Witness at the Border, an advocacy group that tracks flight data.

Turns out Colombia wasn't rejecting repatriation at all, just the manner in which they come.

So, not so much cards at the high table, as Saturday night charades, then!

Petro responded to footage of migrants being frogmarched before the fake news, dear. Many are up on petty crimes, no convictions, and in some cases, there were no crimes at all.

You know, "men of military age", released from "prisons, mental hospitals and worse, mental asylums", "eating our pets", "stone cold killers" and some, "I assume, are very good people".

Trussed in gaffa for their perp walk in front of Fox and Newsmax.

There they are, all those prisoners, mental patients and worse, mental asylums seekers, taped up, bunged onto cargo planes and sent back to where they came from.

And they're the lucky ones. Did you know?

So Columbia is going to pay to fly them home. ;)

Trump Reminds Colombian President He Wants Two Coats Of Wax On His Limousine

President Petro had reportedly offered to fly in early Monday morning and wash Trump's presidential limousine in an effort to smooth things over after initially standing in defiance of Trump's goal of repatriating Colombian nationals who had entered the U.S. illegally.

"Just remember, Gustavo, that's two coats of wax on the limo, okay?" Trump was heard shouting outside. "I want that limousine to look like a big, beautiful mirror. No limo should be shinier. The secret is the two coats. Always two coats. If I find out you only put one coat, I'll bring back the tariffs. You don't want that. I don't want that. Let's just do this the easy way. Two coats of wax, Gustavo."

Witnesses at the White House confirmed that President Petro quickly responded with an obedient "¡Sí! ¡Sí, Señor Presidente Trump! ¡Dos capas de cera!"

A Trump administration insider confirmed that the president had compiled a list of more chores for Petro to do, including mowing the White House lawn, picking up Trump's dry cleaning, and making a run to McDonald's for a Big Mac and Diet Coke.

At publishing time, reports circulated that Trump also demanded that Petro officially change the spelling of Colombia to "Columbia" so people would stop spelling it incorrectly.

And the stupidity of your OP is entirely in character with your usual febrile, serios/pouting TDS nonsense, only a lot shorter.

Leftards will be upset taxpayers didn't get to pay for sending them back on American planes.

Trump has proved you can deport these people if you have a backbone and they will pay flight costs to return them.

Winning  ;)

Ah... but the Bee has humour. Humour that skewers your type.

You have no humour, no light touch, no sense of proportion, no candid or otherwise insight -  only verbiage, overblown, central office memo content.

In short, resentment. Baroque verbal diarrhoea  of resentment.
