Without offering any evidence (not that he ever does), Trump has laid the blame for the tragedy over the Potomac River at the Democrats and supposedly their DEI policies. Just when you thought Trump couldn’t go any lower, he does. Well, if we’re going to play that game, Pete Buttigieg got it right when he said that millions of flights were completed safely under the previous administration. Personally, I’d go further to remind Trump and his deranged supporters that this happened on his watch after he has carried out mass firings without any justification.

Story on ABC this morning said that helicopter pilot, who was training with night vision goggles on, had been instructed to hold . Pilot either didn't listen or missed the instruction and they took off anyway.

Citing media reports, Mr Trump said the FAA was actively recruiting workers who “suffer severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems and other mental and physical conditions under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agency’s website. Can you imagine? “These are people that are I mean, actually, their lives are shortened because of the stress that they have. Brilliant people have to be in those positions. “The FAA website states they include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism – all qualify for the position of a controller of airplanes pouring into our country, pouring into a little spot … little runway,” he said. He rejected the FAA diversity and inclusion hiring plan which said diversity was “integral” to achieving the mission of “ensuring safe and efficient travel.” “I don’t think so. I don’t think so. I think it’s just the opposite,” he said. Mr Trump took aim at the Democratic Party’s legacy on aviation safety, taking aim at the former secretary of transportation – Pete Buttigieg – and accusing him of running the Department of Transportation into the ground with diversity initiatives. |

Keeping Americans Safe in Aviation
January 21, 2025 Every day, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), within the U.S. Department of Transportation, oversees safety for more than 45,000 flights and 2.9 million airline passengers. These Americans trust the FAA’s public servants with their lives, and it is therefore imperative that they maintain a commitment to excellence and efficiency. During the prior administration, however, the FAA betrayed its mission by elevating dangerous discrimination over excellence. For example, prior to my Inauguration, the FAA Diversity and Inclusion website revealed that the prior administration sought to specifically recruit and hire individuals with serious infirmities that could impact the execution of their essential life-saving duties. Illegal and discriminatory diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring, including on the basis of race, sex, disability, or any other criteria other than the safety of airline passengers and overall job excellence, competency, and qualification, harms all Americans, who deserve to fly with confidence. It also penalizes hard-working Americans who want to serve in the FAA but are unable to do so, as they lack a requisite disability or skin color. FAA employees must hold the qualifications and have the ability to perform their jobs to the highest possible standard of excellence. I hereby order the Secretary of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administrator to immediately return to non-discriminatory, merit-based hiring, as required by law. All so-called DEI initiatives, including all dangerous preferencing policies or practices, shall immediately be rescinded in favor of hiring, promoting, and otherwise treating employees on the basis of individual capability, competence, achievement, and dedication. The Secretary of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administrator shall review the past performance and performance standards of all individuals in critical safety positions and take all appropriate action to ensure that any individual who fails or has failed to demonstrate requisite capability is replaced by a high-capability individual that will ensure top-notch air safety and efficiency. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/keeping-americans-safe-in-aviation/ |

Of course he wont offer up any evidence, he is just deflecting away from his own actions. The collision quickly raised concerns about the state of air traffic control and oversight and sparked questions about recent leadership changes within the federal agencies charged with regulating air travel. Just days before the crash, President Donald Trump enacted a sweeping shake-up of the federal agencies responsible for aviation oversight, removing the administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), David Pekoske, and eliminating all the members of a key aviation security advisory group. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which regulates airlines and aircraft manufacturers and manages the nation’s airspace, was also without permanent leadership at the time of the crash, as its top official, Michael Whitaker, stepped down ahead of the new administration’s transition after clashing with Trump ally Elon Musk. Whitaker became the agency’s administrator in October 2023. I'm not suggesting these sackings had anything to do with this crash, all it shows, once again is trump running for cover and making up lies. He realy is a truly, truly pathetic manchild. |

It's actually very complicated and automatic systems must have failed in some way:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_collision_avoidance_system A traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS, pronounced /ˈtiːkæs/ TEE-kas), also known as an Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS),[1] is an aircraft collision avoidance system designed to reduce the incidence of mid-air collision (MAC) between aircraft. It monitors the airspace around an aircraft for other aircraft equipped with a corresponding active transponder, independent of air traffic control, and warns pilots of the presence of other transponder-equipped aircraft which may present a threat of MAC. It is a type of airborne collision avoidance system mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organization to be fitted to all aircraft with a maximum take-off mass (MTOM) of over 5,700 kg (12,600 lb) or authorized to carry more than 19 passengers. |

He said that in order to fly in civilian airspace, the military helicopter would have needed to be fitted with a transponder alerting surrounding aircraft to its position. That means both aircraft should have been able to see each other, he says, plus there would have been instructions from air traffic control and an aircraft protection safety device that operate separately from each other. "On this occasion, you have these two different systems and both should have been able to keep these aircraft separate." |

The only reason I didn't complete it is because of a change in family circumstances meant I could not move the family to Melbourne or Brisbane or Sydney any longer. The medical requirements to become an air traffic controller are akin to those required to be a commercial airline pilot. You certainly can't get in if you suffer from "suffer severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems, and other mental and physical condition". Air Traffic Control training is vastly different due to the sheer number of lives at stake. It's hardly the same as a government accountant, where the worst that's likely to happen is a paper cut. To become an air traffic controller, you have to undergo intensive training and at a number of points along the way you are assessed/tested and if you fail, you can no longer continue the training. Your supposed training of government staff is nothing compared to this. |

They were shown there they went wrong with their answers and then allowed to take the same exam again. Yep and this sort of thing doesn’t happen with ATC training. It’s ALL competency based, meaning your theory and practical assessments are graded and if you fail at any stage, you are let go and now permitted to continue your training. It’s basically too sad, so sad, bye bye. You need to pass each stage of training in order to progress. You don’t get the answers and then allowed to resist the test. |

Air Traffic Controllers are selected because they can maintain composure under pressure, have an analytical mind with good problem solving skills and can do quick calculations on things such as distance and speed in their mind. They are confident decision makers, but above all, they are human and humans do make mistakes. It is for that reason we have redundancy in the aviation sector. If one system fails, another kicks in. That's how it's supposed to happen. If an ATC misses something, such as two aircraft getting too close to each other, the backup system (in this case TCAS) kicks in and tells the pilots of those planes what to do without any input needed from ATC. Clearly, something went badly wrong in Washington DC. My guess is that the US Army helicopter pilot will be found to be at fault and I think the request from ATC to the Blackhawk pilot to confirm they had the CRJ in sight was too ambiguous and possibly lead to the pilot misidentifying the aircraft, causing the collision. I think also, the Blackhawk needed another crew chief for an extra set of eyes. As with all incidents in aviation, it's usually a combination of factors that leads to a fatal incident, not any one thing. |

So Trump is Commander in Chief of the US Army and Navy.
Which means the helicopter pilot was employed by Trump. Why is it then that Trump has no control over the actions of his staff? Does he not care if they act in a manner contrary to the safety of the public? Will he admit the possibility that hundreds of people he employs may be incompetent, and if so why hasn't he fired them? |
