Title: Hi Jo Heylen, why did you steal from taxpayers?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02-02/nsw-transport-minister-jo-haylen-ministerial-driver-pub-test/104886824

The question the NSW government must ask themselves is why do they protect a thief and allow us , the taxpayer to pay not only her 400k wage put her outrageous superannuation?

Is it a “Glady “ thing?

Female politicians in the NSW government feel “ empowered “ to thieving because “Glady “ did it and nothing happened to her?

Jo Heylen do you and you alone may believe you can charge taxpayers the best part of a thousand dollars to get drunk at a three hour lunch with friends but it’s not ok.

Chris Minns will not sack you as you should be because?

His already scraped the bottom of the minuscule talent barrel labor has put him in charge of.

P.s your haircut is stupid

Not sure what you mean by "steal".

She STOLE $750 bucks from the NSW taxpayer to pay for her transportation to a private drunken 3 hour lunch.

I dare any other public servants to do the same and not be dismissed and or face court for larceny.

She’s protected ( as Glady is) because she’s just another thieving politician!

No she didn't.

The Ministerial Handbook states private use of the taxpayer-funded vehicles are allowed and are a "fringe benefit" of the position.

She’s “admitted “ her mistake and ( if you can believe a word she says) going repay the $750 she STOLE.

If she has done absolutely nothing wrong as you suggest why is she putting her hand up and saying “ I’m sorry I got caught and will repay it , maybe, if my mates don’t forget to invoice me”?

“ NSW opposition leader Mark Speakman said Ms Haylen showed "utter contempt" for the taxpayer and called on her to resign.

"They forced a government driver into a gruelling 13-hour shift," Mr Speakman said.

"It's an insult to the taxpayer. It's an abuse of taxpayers money."

“ Abc

She’s entitled and female, Glady was corrupt but never faced court.

They are empowered to be corrupt and only be sorry if they are caught!

She's saying she's sorry because it doesn't pass the pub test.

And I agree: it's not a good look.

However, the Ministerial Handbook states private use of the taxpayer-funded vehicles are allowed and are a "fringe benefit" of the position.

She did absolutely nothing illegal.

She didn't steal any money, or use any service she wasn't legally entitled to.

Quote:
NSW transport minister Jo Haylen has agreed to pay back the cost of a taxpayer-funded driver she used to attend a "long lunch" on the Australia Day long weekend.

The log book show the 446 kilometre trip took the driver 13 hours.

According to the official log book, the 446 kilometre round-trip had the driver travel from Sydney to Ms Haylen's home on the Central Coast and back.

Once on the Central Coast, the driver dropped Ms Haylen and her friends, which included NSW housing minister Rose Jackson, to an upmarket restaurant at Brokenwood Wines in Pokolbin, where they had a three hour lunch.

The chauffeur left from Sydney in a Kia Carnival van at 8am on January 25 and did not clock off until almost 13 hours later, just before 9pm.

But Ms Haylen admitted the large, costly trip did not pass "the pub test" and that use of ministerial drivers for personal use was a "grey area".

If labor had any integrity they would not say personal use is a grey area they would ban it.

She used taxpayers money for a piss up in the Hunter valley

labor is looking at reviewing the rules .. we'll wait and see what happens with it

No, it wasn't illegal. It was within the rules for Ministers. But it was a breathtaking display of poor judgement to use a taxpayer funded car and driver for a personal trip to get pissed. Just because she can do it within the rules, doesn't mean she should. This is also what gets me - Minns has refused to sack either of them after being given assurances they won't do it again. Yeah, right.

I definitely agree - it was poor judgement.

However, there's no reason for anyone to be sacked - they've done nothing wrong/illegal/outside the rules.

I’m quite clear with what it means, its Jo Haylen who showed a lack of awareness as she has freely admitted.

Minns is now looking at new laws to ensure that people of limited intellect such as Jo Heylen will be able too understand it  and also cut off suggestions that the rort is well spread within his government and stop any discussion of a investigation into other ministers.

Indeed.

I agree with you 100% - it doesn't pass the pub test.

It showed poor judgement.

However, she broke no laws or codes of conduct.

She did not "steal" anything, as you have claimed.

It's not a grey area. Politicians are allowed to use taxpayer funded cars for private functions. It is a fringe benefit of their position.

There is no grey.

It's still a poor decision by her.

“ Politicians are allowed to use taxpayer funded cars for private functions. ”

Using it to transport your children too Saturday sports because your too hungover to drive them yourself is a breech.

If Minns can’t crack down on his own ministers rorts or what it really is, thieving, he needs to stand aside.

It’s not as if he will be missed in anyway judging his failure in government so far.

make a poor judgement call

I have heard that argument/ justification many times.
Drunk drivers who kill, Murderers, Fraudsters, Glady,Common criminals, shoplifters, etc , etc.

Those are crimes.

She's committed no crime.

Except she stole money from the taxpayers to go on a drunken road trip to impress her friends.

No.

She stole nothing.

She's living rent-free in your head though.

She made an apology, so nothing to see folks, move along to the next apologies get out of Gaol free card.
She really should do better and at least take a trip overseas at taxpayer's expense. The apologies remain the same though. She's got a lot to learn.

Only if they are there IN their political position, and not BECAUSE of it... it's not even a fine line.

They can go to a private function by guvcar as part of their duties - not just because someone invites them because they happen to be a politician.

It's not hard.

I’m going to contact my Federal Labor member and explain how this lack of leadership reflects on the labor brand and unless something is done I will not only not vote for her in the upcoming federal election but actively support those running against her.

It seemed awful upsetting to the staffer who took my call.
He suggested I should ring Lnp politicians offices as well regarding their corruption issues.

When I explained I do. He hung up? I found this very unprofessional but typical.

Well that was silly of her to resign.
Bronwyn Bishop used Helicopters and others overseas trips.
