What Aboriginal superstition is the ABC pandering here?

RIP.

Must have been very talented. I had only heard of him in recent years.

Sympathy to his family and friends.

An image on this too.

Recorded in Long Bay Prison 1972.

Aboriginal people do not look at pictures of people once they have died. The ABC is telling them that there is an image of him in the article. They are giving Aboriginal people the option of not viewing the article. I don't see why anyone would have a problem.

You would have to be a very disturbed individual to have an issue with that.

It's almost as if some people just go out of their way to find insignificant things to be upset over.

It would seem that's exactly the life you lead... sad.

No self respect ... in that you make a wager or in fact a statement that you would leave this forum if Trump won the 2016 election .... he did and you reneged on your wager .... then 8 years later against all the odds that the Democrats threw at him Trump wins the position of the POTUS again.

It's disappointing to see that you're not a man of your word ... and apparently never have been .. that you're still here misquoting people, defending the indefensible from a leftards perspective.

Even though I respect people that become professional advocates for the industrial and workplace rights of working class Australians.....

I find it hard to believe you ever had any of their interests at heart?

Not every topic is meant to be or appropriate to use as an excuse to bash Aboriginal people.

This seems to be a great man and talented musician - performer who has passed and deserves some respect.

Well said.

Born in La Perouse Mission in Sydney's south-east in 1946, Uncle Vic rose to prominence as a child prodigy who began songwriting, singing professionally aged just 11.

His career as a recording artist started with a performance at the Manly Jazzorama Music Festival in 1957, before he moved to release his first single Yo-Yo Heart in 1961, aged 15, and debut album The Loner by 1973.

1. It's not - you're making the claims about the ABC and Aboriginal tradition.

2. He may well have been - but had you ever heard of him?

3. What point was Bwyan trying to make by posting about a relatively unknown Aboriginal musician?

It is extremely tedious.

If you had an Irish or French grandfather, would you go around proclaiming yourself as a proud Irishman or proud Frenchman?

No.

But having an Aboriginal grandparent is now treated as a proud personal achievement.

I have never heard of Vic Simms until now, may he rest in peace.

I do not take Aboriginal superstitions seriously.  It is ludicrous to say , in bold, that the article may carry images of deceased people when the flaming headline say Vic Simms has died. This is how it is presented:

Bidjigal Elder and acclaimed musician Uncle Vic Simms dies aged 78

BIG PICTURE OF Vic Simms

Acclaimed Aboriginal musician Victor Simms has passed away aged 78, drawing the curtains on a six-decade career in the performance, entertainment — and in his later years — teaching and business industries.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that this article contains an image of a person who has died, used with permission of his family.

One less ex-jailbird to feed...  ;)

He got his first real six string,
While 'im doin' White Man's time
Fightin' til 'is fingers bled
Cause she wouldn't give sixty nine..

He and some boys from Redfun
Had a gang and they tried real hard
Errol O.D'd and Thaison got busted
Guess they were never gonna get too far

Ah, when he looks back now
He wished his time would last forever
And if he had a choice
We know that he'd still rather be here
That's the big trouble when you die...

Yeah ... all over some sixty-nine...

I know a number of people born in Australia who wear their parents birth nationality proudly be that Irish, French, Italian, Greek, Islander or anything else. Why shouldn't they. Aboriginal people have every right to be proud of their heritage customs and beliefs. I think it's nice to see their belief respected. It didn't hurt anyone.

That is fine but it doesn't have to be at the expense of everyone else ?

Welcome to my Anglo-Danish-Norman culture.

I pay my respect to all the proud Scandinavian ancestors who made British culture a reality and a wonderful force for good across the world. I also pay mt respects to our Norman forebears who were Danes but brought Frenchie sophistication to the British Isles and then to the world.

There should be a few Danish Cultural months, perhaps concurrent with NAIDIC, no?

Danes have cerainly contributed infinitely more to modern Australia than Aborigines.

You should visit Denmark and enjoy your culture for a few decades. Nice little place no internet.

And you spend as much time crowing about it as you do casting aspersions on other types of people.

Which is a considerable amount of time.

And then you throw hissy fits when anyone else does it, especially if they've sounder reasoning for doing so than you.

Well, I could be going around clobbering my wife and monstering my nieces and declaring myself a proud Aboriginal elder.
You'd genuflect to that, you silly bint.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if you did. You wouldn't be the first Dane to do it. You fit the profile in several ways.

Fortunately for you, assigning characteristics to an entire group of people based on the basest examples doesn't pass the pub test.

Only morons and bigots do that. The rest of us learned better years ago.

Good to hear that Frank, Most have no need to make such declarations but in your case it is reassuring.

Can you read bugger wit? Test the pub with these statistics.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia are disproportionately affected by violence, including family violence, assault, and homicide.

In 2022–23, Aboriginal people were 33 times more likely to be hospitalized for family violence than non-Indigenous Australians.

Aboriginal women were 34 times more likely to be hospitalized for family violence than non-Indigenous women.

Hospitalization rates for family violence are higher in remote and very remote areas.

In 2019–2021, Aboriginal people were 15 times more likely to be hospitalized for assault than non-Indigenous Australians.

The rate of hospitalization for assault was highest for Aboriginal females living in remote and very remote areas.

Between 1989 and 2023, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women were victims of homicide at a rate up to seven times the national average.

Most victims were killed by someone they knew, often by an Indigenous male intimate partner.

Alcohol and illicit drug misuse are risk factors for violent offending by Indigenous people.

Childhood experience of violence and abuse are risk factors for violent offending by Indigenous people.

Did I hear 'white colonialism, white privilege, systemic wacism'?
Or is that not assigning characteristics to an entire group of people?

Denigrate only white Western culture and history. Everything else is moronic bigotry.

Got it.

"Look at the precious little snowflakes, crying because somebody mentioned an Aboriginal person without denigrating them!"

You know that mothra unequivocally supports Aborigines in their crime sprees, violence, absenteeism, woman killing etc - all because to fail to do so means they can't be victims.... and not of their own erroneous ways.

Mothra imagines that stating the facts is 'denigrating' Aborigines - when nobody here has ever said anything against those who do no crime etc - but - like Mussos - ONLY against those who DO wrong!  Mothra's position is delusional and racist.

'snowflakes'?  Sallow racists use that as a criticism of wharteboys...

'white colonialism, white privilege, systemic wacism' - those are the basic tenets of mothra's religion, shared by a few others.

Yep - Frank nailed her hide to her own cross... I take it mothra is a 'her' from the self-ID... you know...   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  could be a peccary for all I know......
