"Queensland's environment minister has categorically ruled out closing public access to the culturally significant Glass House Mountains. Speculation over closures was sparked after a climbing group obtained documents under a Freedom of Information request from the Department of Environment. Several emails between bureaucrats and park rangers discussed plans to permanently close Mount Beerwah and nearby peaks. But Environment Minister Andrew Powell said he guaranteed that would not happen. "As the relevant minister let me categorically rule that out. That will not be happening," he said. "There will be no permanent closure on Mount Beerwah or any of the surrounding peaks. "The only time there will be some slight closures will be for track maintenance or for safety reasons. No permanent closures. "Suggestions that Mount Beerwah could be closed for Indigenous cultural reasons are factually inaccurate, misleading, and disrespectful to the Jinibara and Kabi Kabi peoples." Save Our Summits president Marc Hendrickx spent more than a year applying for the documents from the department. One email from 2022 discussed a draft "precinct visitor management implementation plan". "Essentially aiming to close Mt Beerwah, likely close [Mt] Coochin and implement seasonal closures and other management actions across other peaks," the email said. Mr Hendrickx, a previous Libertarian Party candidate, said it was clear some people within the department were pushing to close the summits. He welcomed the minister's guarantee but wants it written into the park management plan "to put this issue to bed once and for all". "We've heard these comments from ministers in the past in relation to places like Ayers Rock (Uluru) and Mount Warning in northern NSW," Mr Hendrickx said. "The minister can say what he wants, but these things need to be put in the park management plans. They are the overriding documents that control access." Mr Hendrickx compared the situation to when former prime minister Kevin Rudd and opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull both advocated in 2009 for climbers to maintain access to Uluru. "And yet, less than 10 years later, we saw the closure of the Ayers Rock summit climb," he said. The current Glass House Mountains management plan was written in 2013 and updated in 2024. "The mountains have great significance to Aboriginal people who believe that the spirits of their dead reside in them," the plan states. "Aboriginal culture has protocols for who may access the peaks. For them it is not appropriate for the general public to have access to the peaks." The Jinibara People Aboriginal Corporation was contacted for comment. In 2023, Jinibara custodian BJ Murphy conducted a week-long peaceful protest. He camped at the base of the mountain seeking to educate visitors on the cultural harm caused by hiking the summit. The management plan also notes several local recreational groups "would like more involvement in park management". "The Glass House Mountains have a significant value to the rock climbing community and a history of rock climbing use dating back to the early 20th century," the plan states. "It is important for [Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service] to develop and maintain positive relationships with this and other outdoor recreational groups and associations." Mr Hendrickx said he has spoken to Jinibara representatives and understood their wish to close Mount Beerwah. "We've got a whole gamut of cultures in Australia and there's a whole range of belief systems, but I don't think it's fair that one particular group enforces their beliefs on other people," he said. A Department of Environment spokesman said there are "no plans" to close Mount Beerwah. (more) ...... Don't forget this in case they try to start weaseling out of the commitment to keep it open for ALL .. watch this space for Mt Warning style 'repairs and safety concerns'... Freediver? You there? |

Yeah. I chased them up about this twice over the last few years. Got the same response. People have been spooked by what happened at Mt Warning, so the QLD department must be getting a lot of enquiries.

If you fail to retake Mt Warning.
They will go on to conquer the Glasshouse Mountains. |

So true. It started with Ayers Rock and has now moved on and on including Lake Eyre. If the monstrosity of closing Mt Warning is not overturned FULLY, the disease will spread like a virus. The sycophantic politicians know full well that's how it always works... it never works the other way ...and they are biding their time while one tiny step at a time the Glasshouses will become just another private spiritual 'reserve' for a non-religion from a failed culture, and a 'reserve' for a tiny group who never use it anyway - and all to simply spite the majority who are considered as invaders and as total underlings here.
Pure madness, and you simply must stop UNELECTED governments (though at the behest of elected governments) here from becoming absolute dictatorships. That's my take on it... YOU? Full Reset To A Full Democracy NOW! |

Having conquered Mt Warning.
Their troops are now marching towards the Glasshouse Mts, knowing the white Lefties will sabotage any opposition against them. |

Fifth Columnists... like Hamas - they dress as civilians, women and children, then hide their guns when caught and whine about how some Israeli killed their family for simply taking up arms... our Fifth Columnists and jihadis hide in government departments on fat salaries, wearing suits etc, and sit around all day deciding how to do over the peasants today... They need to all be booted without pay. It's been even worse since governments elect started to impose on the people via appointments of old mates to prime spots, so as to guarantee there are no speed humps on the road to the great revolution that will impose a few over the many ... |

If you can't reclaim Mt Warning.
Then you'll lose the Glasshouse Mts too. |

... tiny bite by tiny bite... wait for the 'closed for maintenance' signs ... and then the mission creep until they suddenly find out that there's a sacred spot there somewhere right on the trail - the only one past that spot... or some other outsider group - just like Mt Warning and Fraser Island - comes along and says they have spiritual connections with that lend... Likely the proof is the pile of Johnny Walker spirit bottles... |

They've been going after Mt Panorama since about 2015. They had a win in 2021 in stopping a Race Kart track being built because the site was sacred to women. Now this business after scattering the ashes of a bloke up there in 2022. How were they allowed to scatter a mans ashes in a sacred site for women? |

How were they allowed to scatter ashes there and then make this ridiculous claim.... he's gone with the wind by now... if they chose to scatter his ass there, that's their problem. |
