As if anyone was going to change what the Orange maniac was doing. This tariff applies to every country, none are getting exemptions. What we need to do is like the rest of the world restructure our trade away from the USA.

The US need this stuff it mainly hurts them. They don't care about out Steel etc we are number 26 on their steel trading list we are nothing.

Excellent article:

Trump Intent on Transforming U.S. into Pariah State

Someday, perhaps someday soon, when the U.S. — long the cornerstone of an alliance of global democracies that have kept the peace and delivered unparalleled economic prosperity to the world for 80 years — stands alone as a pariah kleptocratic state led by an authoritarian white nationalist regime, historians will point to Friday, February 28, 2025, as the day the U.S. turned its back on the world and its historic legacy of fighting for freedom.

Or, at least, the historians who remain in the free world beyond America’s shores will write that.

Yup. Show Trump we retaliate. Pricks likely wouldn’t even give us the subs we paid for anyway. Then new markets for our aluminium and steel.

^ we were never going to get the subs we paid for. The whole thing was a scam just as we will never have access to Australia’s emergency petrol reserves we purchased from America under the deal we pay them more to keep it stored in America.

I’ll be surprised if they don’t sell us Trump Tower next at double the going price with the only stipulation being we can’t use it.

America just does us over every single time. Our politicians are simply not that smart.

Could be what America wants, most of the big companies in Australia are US owned anyway. Instead of relying on the easy and stable markets in the US these American companies will expand into new markets.

getting desperate for excuses now aren't you?  :D

You know there is absolutely nothing stopping these companies from expanding into these new markets anyway . They don't need trumps tariffs to do it. ::)

"Rudd fails" .. is more than adequate.

The tariff applies to all countries -

therefore it will increase the price of steel and aluminum for customers in the US -

so it will not affect our sales except if we compete with a US company.

We may not see a drop in sales.

It will only increase price of imported steel/alloys in the US.
These tariffs will help companies making this in the US they will buy American.

Saudi Arabia makes twice as much steel as we do. Our Aluminium smelters are going bust under AnAls renewable rubbish increasing costs for them which AnAl then throws taxpayer money in subsidies at so they can stay in business.

Response to US steel tariffs

We are aware of media reports this morning that President Trump has said he will announce tariffs on steel and aluminium imported to the US.

BlueScope has been investing in the United States for 30 years.  Most recently, we have spent $2 billion on acquisitions and brownfields expansion of our operations there.  BlueScope is now the fifth largest steel producer in the US, employing 4,000 American workers.

BlueScope abides by all trade rules and agreements.  We will continue to work with the Trump administration and the Australian Government, as we await further details.  We have no further comment to make at this stage.

The elephant in the room nobody is talking about is why does Australian company Bluescope invest over $2 billion ($3 billion Australian) to make steel in the US instead of making it here?

Is it wage costs much higher here?
Is it energy costs much higher here?
Is it company taxes including payroll tax that make it cheaper to do this in the US?

Albo wants to build stuff here while he is sending everyone broke

Construction crisis looms as Australia’s only float glass manufacturer goes bust

Australia’s construction industry just took another hit, with the country’s only architectural float glass manufacturer, Oceania Glass, entering voluntary administration.

The Dandenong-based company, which employs 260 people and produces 165,000 tonnes of flat glass a year, has long been a key player in the sector.

Oceania Glass has been a staple of Australian manufacturing since 1856. With distribution centres in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane,
