Coming Up: Monday April 28, 2025

Stream the show on ABC iview or on Q+A's YouTube channel

All politics is local, the old saying goes. But this federal election, global events have regularly pulled focus.

Trade wars. Markets volatility. Warnings of global economic downturn. Long-standing security ties challenged. Chinese ships on our doorstep. An American president tearing up democratic norms. Even the death of a Pope – at a pivotal moment for communities of faith.

What sort of world will Anthony Albanese or Peter Dutton inherit? Who’s best to steer us through increasingly stormy seas?

And what does it all mean for your job and your hip pocket? What do you want to hear from political leaders in the dying days of a still-tight election race?

Q+A is broadcasting from Sydney on Monday, April 28 at 9.35pm AEST.

But it looks like an easy win for Albo so this election will be a fizzer -
nothing will change.

I wonder if the Greens and Teal independents will increase their numbers.  Well it looks like they are going to try.  Not just in liberal seats, but in labor seats as well.  Could we be in for a hung parliament?.   :)

I hope so - Albo needs something to control his recklessness.

Budget surpluses (plural), real wage growth while investing in housing, infrastructure, health and education?

So reckless...

'Real wage rises' means nothing when people have a higher number of dollars that buy less...

'Real wage rises' means nothing when it is applied as policy to selected sectors...

HOMING increase in lagging still with more out of the market ...

Immigration is out of control ...

Budgets are only forward estimates using massaged figures - the reality is constant deficits.....

We have been in recession for decades now, with no light ahead....

Re housing ( not HOMING) - suggestion of cutting immigration to 100,000... well - that's only 30,000 or so homes needed!!

Full Stop!  The paradigm of investment properties has failed to produce the goods - the banks PREFER a 'business plan' to a HOME mortgage for reasons of higher interest as well as no divorce, no job loss etc.

What about LAST home buyers?  Those who had a home or maybe two and went through divorce etc under the 'new regime' and all the other 'social revolution' bullshit, and had to start again and again?

All weak as piss or deluded over 'WTC', everyone but Labor solid on HOMES, bought and purchased and OWNED as HOMES.  I don't want my grand-children fighting to get into rental to enrich some asshole... though at least my children - one a tradie manager, the other now a ranking public servant in Queensland - will be able to once they inherit the house that Dad's money bought for mum, but at this time, even they are struggling.

No WTC - if you love it so much - put it to a vote!!  Abolish housing investment.

BS - AUKUS submarines are ship killers - not strategic missile pads.  They are a defensive weapon not an offensive one.  Bandt is talking cock.  The photographs show some with SEAL Delivery Vehicle capability - which is that housing on the deck, so technically they could be used - IF we have those - to deliver small attack forces against an enemy.

Not much of a part of any Trump assault force'.

Armed forces are the same size now as 1987 - and equipment is superseded, we have fewer ships, and there is little to no strategic planning, morale is low, retention rates are low... this needs a review and ACTION.  Afghanistan has had a very bad effect, you all know why... time to put that behind the nation, and leave the troops alone to get on with their lives.

I outlined last night some of the issues with the colonial SAS here... with officers and how they are chosen and emplaced and trained.  Les Hiddins is a rare species... even 22 SAS has had COs inserted due to 'politics' - and I've said how the operational control naturally devolves to the Other Ranks, hopefully based on merit.... though Bravo Two Zero showed flaws... the Sergeant's Mess holds enormous power for the simple reason that Captains - the lowest commissioned rank - are viewed as essentially raw subalterns, and need to really prove themselves.
