The six-member panel has made
no specific recommendations in its report released today, but presents a number of "findings".
Among the chief findings is that it would be
almost impossible to make a case for nuclear power were it not for concerns about harmful carbon emissions from coal-fired plants.
That is because coal and gas are so cheap in Australia, relative to other energy sources.
The report also makes clear the scientists do not believe renewable energy sources such as solar and wind will make substantial contributions to power needs.
