Prosperity in the Bible
Jul 29th, 2007 at 2:19am

Here is a thread that arose from the "cult" thread.
A claim against the Hillsong church.  A teaching I feel is overrepresented in at least one pentecostal church I have been in.  have not been in a hillsong church, so can't comment on that.

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."
Malachi 3:10

On a prosperity topic, Jesus was really rich, as were his early followers.

jesus was "spiritualy" rich, he owned nothing but the clothes he wore.
He was not a christian, he did not go to church on sundays and nor did he give the church 10% of his wages.
Christianity was born after christ died, then went on todomuch the same as the muslim extremist are doing now, taking over lands and killing those who do not conform.
Don't get me wrong, the millions of dollars these types of churches make help thousands of poor, homeless and less fortunate people as well as enabling the people who run them to drive BMW's dress in Armani suit and dine on expensive cuisine.
Money does nothing for the soul, spirtuality is about rising above the physical.

Yes, He was really rich. He was a carpenter, a well paid trade even now.
He had a house (they used ot go back to his house for prayer), he was not married and had no kids !
Even before he was born, wise men travelled far to give him camel trains of valuable spices.
Every dad wants good things for His kid.

Yes, spirituality is not about being rich.
same as money does not make you happy.  But it's nice, all the same.

Christians are meant to be in this world, but not of it.
