Christianity and Spiritulity
Aug 23rd, 2007 at 10:58am

A lot of pple say they are not a christian and even shun a lot of the prcatices of christianity, going to church/mass etc.

But are happy to say they are very spiritual.

Im a combination of the 2.

What is the difference between the two and why are some pple quick to distance thmselves from the tag christian.

Christians are people who accept Christ as their savior.

You can believe in God and not be Christian, or any religion for that matter.

PS Christianity is a load of crap used to keep the population in line.

Some spiritual people are christians ?  Some are jews, some are wiccans .....

I agree with what super said, well the first two bits anyway.  Smiley

generally christians get ridiculed/abused, so is easier to ... distance themselves. Cowards.

So how do you claim to be "a combination of the two"  (spiritual and christian) oceans ?
To be christian is to be spiritual, to be spiritual is not necessarily to be christian
What part of a christian belief/life have you done ?
Been baptized as an adult, been Born Again, hands on healing, talking in tongues, knowledge, read the Bible/New Testament ?

Hi sprint,

I am not Christian per se..but I do love the spiritual feeling that goes with the beautiful temples, churches, and places of worship the world over..from the simplest country church to the most revered and elaborate building anywhere on the globe.

What have i done? How do I define spriituality as a "doing", spirituality is an intangible..but I suppose it started when I was a child and my mum, a Catholic, made us kids go to Sunday school and Bible classes..which I loved. The wording of the Bible intrigued me..Im not sure why..maybe I thought it just made a great story.

As a young girl a part of me yearned for the inner peace of a nunnery..I had a turbulent childhood so that yearning may have stemmed from there. I still to this day would like one day to enter a nunnery...not to spread the word of God but to find that inner peace and allow myself to take a long  deep breath...

I have a very deep connection with mother earth as well..I love digging in the soil after rain, love the rain falling on hot dusty earth..Love the sky ,rainy to bright, clouds etc...I love the wind whipping against my face.

I love the night sky, stars and moon. That is why I think I have never yearned to be rich because I feel that the most precious things in life are free, even though in our consumer driven society we maybe dont see that..we are looking for riches  in the wrong places..I believe to feed your spiritual self in whatever form is as important nutrition, that is why I understand your need to let everyone know the wonders of God. You just want to share it , because you know how good it makes you feel.

So Im not a conventional Christian..but I have both and I love it that way.

Ah, that's fine. Thanks for the answer.

Some people consider themselves christians.
But really they just like some of the christian ethics and some of the sayings etc etc etc.
Which is fine in itself, but it is not being a christian at all.

It's good to have the quiet things in life you can relate to.

Some of us are called to different things.  My catholic friend may well be to a nunnery.
Knowledge is my gift. Is why I get given quotes often, get prompted to read the Bible and so know it reasonably well.

Being Christian involves those points I put down, and others I've posted earlier.
Can be spiritual without being christian.  Being a Christian is ones spirituality.
eg, I'm a Christian who also hugs trees.
But being a bit christian and a bit spiritual has my alarm bells ringing loud and clear.
Christianity is like being pregnant, one cannot be a bit pregnant.
