Family First seeking balance of power

Federal Family First leader Steve Fielding has implored voters to help his party seize the balance of power in the Senate at the coming election.

Senator Fielding revealed on Sunday Family First would run Senate candidates in every state and hoped to have candidates for every lower house seat.

Senator Fielding said he believed Australians liked the idea of having a minor party to stand between Labor and the coalition in the Senate and apply some "commonsense".

"Most people feel uncomfortable when the government of the day has control of the Senate, because we know they use it unfairly," he told reporters.

"The real question is do you want the Greens or Family First to hold the balance of power in Australia," he said.

"There is a real chance that the Greens may get it.
