Partly comes from Shakespeare - Henry V - 'grapple your minds to sternage of this navy' ... and the old story of Jacob (I think) wrestling or grappling with an angel all night (mama mia !!) and finally subduing the angel.... man - I've grappled with some angels but all night is a distant memory.... also from the Grapple Tackle that was banned in NRL due to danger of broken necks.

Also when I board someone's slave ship of fantasy on the high seas of illusion, I lay close alongside and grapple to them and board with cutlass and pistol.... aaaargh!!
