Govt sets up panel to consider petitions

The federal government says a parliamentary panel set up to handle public petitions will ensure the voices of millions will be heard in Canberra.

Leader of the House Anthony Albanese said the Petitions Committee was the first of its kind since nationhood.

"Since Federation, petitions have gathered dust in the bowels of Parliament, largely ignored," Mr Albanese said in a statement.

Petitions submitted would no longer require sponsorship from an MP and the committee will also consider moving to electronic petitions.

I have this odd feeling Kevvy babbled about reducing the 'bloat', taking an axe to the public service.  So he launches some new fangled lunacy to get more arses on seats and to chew up more taxpayer dollars?  The pensioners will be delighted.

*Sure....they're anti competitive as any subsidised job is.  It wouldn't be there without the tax payer.  Very damned difficult for a brainwashed collectivist to understand that I know....  (swaggy) *
