One of my favourite Bible quotes would have to be where God (Jesus according to Christians) commanded the faithful to slaughter and pillage the Midianites, and leave only the nice young virgins alive, so the faithful 'holy warriors' could take them as booty for themselves.:

"They attacked Midian
just as the LORD had commanded
Moses, and they killed all the men.  All five of the Midianite kings – Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba – died in the battle.  They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.  Then the Israelite army captured the Midianite women and children and seized their cattle and flocks and all their wealth as plunder.  They burned all the towns and villages where the Midianites had lived.  After they had gathered the plunder and captives, both people and animals, they brought them all to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the whole community of Israel, which was camped on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River, across from Jericho.

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp.  But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle.  "Why have you let all the women live?" he demanded.  "These are the very ones who followed Balaam's advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor.  They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people.  Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man.  Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves"
(Numbers 31:7-18)

It is understandable for Abu to highlight a verse like that, after all, the Christians on this site quote Koranic verses condoning violence all the time, yet try and pretend that the Bible is not full of violence also.

It is fair enough for him to point out their hypocrisy on this matter.

Of course, the extent of calls to violence in the Koran does seem a lot more abundant than in the Bible, and the relative scarcity of messages of love and peace in the Koran, also does not compare favourably with the bible.

We tried to do a thread like this on the Koran, and could not find much at all in the way of verses, promoting love and compassion, for all men.

It was more like a big book of rules, where they do promote brotherly love amongst muslims, but pretty much stuff all for the rest of us.

The Bible is a large book, says lots of things. It was also written for, and about, a whole host of different things in a number of books. The Koran was however, written by one person, at one time - and that was Mohammed, a medieval warlord, that was fond of beheading his victims, raiding caravans for war booty, and encouraging his men to rape women as part of jihad.

That puts the Koran in a very different category from isolated passages in the Bible. The Koran is also the constitution in Saudi Arabia, and in other islamic nations, they say that all law will be consistent with the Koran. There is nowhere to my knowledge where the Bible is the law, enforced by the State.

Also, while there are examples of violence in the Bible, there is no doctrine of 'jihad' like there is in Islam, with 1000s of pages devoted to exactly what you do when you violently attack other religions, who to kill, who to spare, what booty you can take. It is a central doctrine of Islam, not only existing in texts, but put into practice wherever Islam is present near unbelievers.

There has never been a mainstream scholar of Islam, anywhere, that has, in a scholarly fashion, quoted the Koran and the Hadith to say why muslims should not destroy unbelievers and wage neverending jihad against the Dar al Harb. The best they can do is say 'Islam is about peace', while AQ and the like quote chapter after chapter from the Koran and the Hadith to justify their war against the infidels.

The devout muslims coming to Western countries as refugees want to exercise their RIGHTS within non-muslim countries such as Australia.

Why?

So that they can change our society, and destroy our democratic form of government, and establish a religious dictatorship called ISLAM / Sharia.

Hand the man a cigar. One of the few other people around the place who actually gets it.

I had a good chat with a former officer in the Indian Army about Islam. And he implored me to try to tell others in Australia what my view was and how dangerous Islam was. He said, "Please sir, you must tell them..you must..they are hoodwinking your people sir, you will have terror everywhere just like India, that is why I left. Please sir, they will listen to you, you are white and one of them.'

I said to him 'I doubt they will listen to me either. But I will try. In defence of this country and its freedoms,  I will try.'

Hi, I deleted a few posts from here. They had gone off topic on topic already covered many times.
I'm happy to openly discuss any topic, but just keep them in their place please.
Else we cant find a thing anyway.

Someone asked about a quote with "Fear of God in it "??

"then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."

Wouldn't it be more truthful sprint to say you deleted my posts??

You've quite obviously left some posts of Calanen's which have absolutely nothing to do with Bible quotes.

He deleted my main post as well. You did derail the thread, and I commented on it. He left your flame bait post. Be happy. I hope you were at the Allah Akbar jihad rally in Sydney yesterday. If not, Im telling Sheik Hilali on you.

Isaiah 30:1
Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:
.....8  Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever:
9  That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:
10  Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
11  Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.
12  Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon:
13  Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.

Malachi 3:13
Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?
14  Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
15  And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
16  Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
17  And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
18  Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

2 Peter 3:3
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4  And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Matthew 16:1
The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
2  He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3  And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

Matthew 24:32
Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives."

Psalms 10:1
Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
2  The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
3  For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.
4  The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
5  His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
6  He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.
7  His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
8  He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.
9  He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.
10  He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
11  He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

He puffeth at them?

They were some of the weirdest quotes I have ever read, a good reflection of the whole, some good, some bad, but over ridingly, silly.

yes, I don't like that version much.
Whoever useth terms such as puffeth nowadays !!

The NIVs much more readable.

"Why, O LORD, do you stand far off?  Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.
He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.
In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies.
He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble."
His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.
He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent, watching in secret for his victims.
He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.
He says to himself, "God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees."

Psalm 10:1-11

Jeremiah 23:1
Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.
2  Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.
3  And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
4  And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.
5  Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
6  In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Which version of the bible to read?

It has to be a personal preference.

Obviously sprint, and many others prefer the more modern [language] versions.

Myself and many others, prefer the good ol', ye KJV.

The bible i started reading as a child, was the KJV, and that version has 'stuck'.

In the past, i've tried reading modern versions, but the 'message' just doesn't 'come across' as well, for me, in the modern language versions.

Yadda, my understanding is that the KJV OT is meant to be the same as the Jewish texts, and the Catholic and Orthodox OT's have more books in them than the KJV and are more in tune with what the early Christians actually used, and that the KJV has removed some of the original Christian books to suit itself, ie the removal of Psalm 151, which I don't think is in the Catholic versions either.
