Who needs lies like this???

Dr Nelson is a fake.

Australia is one of the major emitters when looked at in per-capita terms.

It will all boil down to per-capita terms as the problem stems from greed.

How much of the worlds oil does America consume compared to China and India for example?!?

Nelson, and the Fibs, are possibly gone for good.

Lol.
You're not John Frost of Greensborough, by any chance?
I've read a letter in the Herald Sun today who used the exact term - "Fiberals".

I hope it never takes off, just like the stupid term 'Leibor'. It's a sign of the dumbing down of Australian politics to cheap slogans. Even the Americans are above that sort of thing.

Australia is going to have to work a little harder than most, to reach acceptable emission levels(per capita). This is because we have a relatively small population spread out around the edge of a huge continent.

Yet with all our sunlight, waves and wind its EASILY doable.

But then again, if we hadn't cut down all the trees, we wouldn't have this problem.

That may be a valid argument for our transport industry. However it only contributes a small fraction (20% from memory) to our greenhouse emissions. This will no doubt fall as oil runs out. Our electricity industry contributes over 50% of our emissions. Electricity is relatively easy to transport.

One thing we have in our favour is wealth. Plus, we are starting from such a bad position it will be easy to at least look good.

The reason Aussie are big emitters is we mine many resources used worldwide.

A LOT of emmissions are done then, for a product demanded/used overseas.

Plus, we already have HVDC in this country.

We are laughing!

For sure, but saying we are not major emitters commits the Fibs to many years in opposition.

Your statement means China shouldn't be to blame for the emissions it creates when making 70% of the worlds umbrellas.

Are we not the world's worst?
On a per capita basis, when it comes to the environmental issues, we usually rank up top.
I know the tyranny of distance adds dramatically to our oil use, but we should be able to improve from world's worst standards.

What percentage sprint? I think you'll find it's only a small fraction.

It doesn't matter who is the worst. What matters more is who can lead by example, and then when everybody starts to follow the example we set, we sell them the technology and build their new power stations.

That's something to aspire to. We just need a government that walks the talk.

Any great leaders want to step forward?

Howard's Liberals already proved how myopic their future vision was. The ALP's poster boy 'Kevin07' has so far lived up to paying 'lipservice' to the climatic disaster that's about to hit us, but so far I've gained no inspiration from his utterances.

We can't really control what China or the US or India emit, so let's concentrate on what we can control - our own emissions.
