Ahh  I'd like to know why I'd be threatened to be moved along by a moderator of the islam forum?

I'm here to debate... if the heat is too hot for you...  don't threaten me.  just admit when you are wrong.

This thread is not a debate. freediver asked about reasons why people embraced Islam. Now obviously you seem to view every discussion you're involved with Muslims in as a debate, it simply isn't a debate, and that's why your hostile and debating mentality has been singled out as unwelcome in this thread.

What exactly am I to admit to being wrong about? There was no predicate offered, and therefore I can't be actually considered to be wrong about anything.

Now you've been told, either get with the 'vibe' of the thread, or move along.

lol

debate involves an exchange of opinions...

It also involves the delivery of information...

I suggest you start delivering instead of threatening.

I think he's frightened of me sprint.

Or of the truth.  Grin

I haven't said anything on this topic to warrant such behaviour.

That's right it does, but that's got nothing to do with this discussion, because, as you still can't seem to fathom, this is not a debate.

Do you know what a debate is? No... it's not "any discussion I happen to be in and a Muslim is in also".

Yeh, being the intellectual goliath that you are, I've got a lot to be frightened of.

Maybe you'll say 'rotflmao' and then I'll be completely vanquished  Grin

Go easy on him Gaybriel. Grendel doesn't taste a lot of actual victory, so when he perceives himself to have won some trivial (or even non-existent) point in the most irrelevant of discussions, he tends to break out the confetti for himself and celebrate a little. But really we shouldn't deny him this, if it makes him feel a little better about himself.

well I'm so sorry to have let you of all people down Grendel. my world is shattered.

I'm not ganging up on you- I'm pointing out your habit of congratulating yourself extensively whenever you think you've won some kind point scoring battle

it's wonderfully childish

Well I hate to point this out to you gaybriel but I haven't congratulated myself here at all.

Talk about blind bias.

......I am going off memory as to what he actually said and have tried to find a transcript. I do know my initial surprise at his comments have stuck with me.

Your memory is probably not very reliable then.

"The singer attracted controversy in 1989, during an address to students at London's Kingston University, where he was asked about the fatwa calling for the death of author Salman Rushdie. Newspapers quickly interpreted his response as support for the fatwa, but he released a statement the following day clarifying that he had not been supporting vigilantism, and was merely explaining the legal Islamic punishment for blasphemy."

this guy has really gone backwards

From a life of depravity, decadence and no direction. To a grounded and moral life which has purpose. If that's backwards, then I'm glad I signed up too.

I accept my memory may be a bit fizzy, and it was 20 years ago.

Did he accept the fatwa as legal then and therefore it would not be an act in vigilantism. Him explaining the mechanisms of the "law" and saying that he does not support vigilantism doesn't actually explain his position.

For instance, if he held it to be law, then he would not be a vigilante if he enforced this punishment.

Or did he criticize the fatwa, and say that it was wrong?

Of course I don't view his pre-muslim life that way, but I accept that both he and you do.
