despite the claims made from clerics and the murder threats there are many leaving islam.

Why is this ??

"Farhad
I believe in scientific and ethical facts and truths not the many sayings of the religious leaders. All human beings are equal and there is no difference between them because of their thoughts and beliefs. It is the worst thing in the world to call someone PURE (CLEAN)or IMPURE (UNCLEAN), as Islamic Racism.

Freed Ali
I wish to join because I am worried and angered by the state of affairs regarding religion in general in this country and in particular, Islam. There is too much pandering to Islamic leaders and I do not wish to see the spread of Islam any further. I also would like non-Muslims to know that there are a great many of us who believe in humanity, live decent, moral lives without the need for religious dogma.

Frank Friedmann
I had the good fortune to be brought up without 'religion' or 'faith' (other than in reason and humanity).  Thus none can punish me for apostasy.  I join CEMB because freedom from / of religion should be a human right for all, not just those who by an accident of birth have the good fortune not to be from a lineage that espouses Sharia or similar laws and practices.

George Broadhead
I give CEMB my wholehearted support as a gay man who is appalled at Islamic homophobia and its barbarism. I am a founder member and vice-president of the UK Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA) as well as secretary and trustee of the UK gay Humanist charity the Pink Triangle Trust.

Grant James, Reading
I am an atheist. My partner is from a Muslim family. The threats, intimidation, emotional blackmail, and other pressure that they have brought to bear on her in the name of Islam has been heartbreaking to watch and is ongoing. Their hatred/fear of assimilation with non-believers prevents any reasonable conversation about differences and compromise. Their unjustified belief in the 'next life' prevents us all from getting along in this one.

Hadi Mahmoudi

Hamid Sabzikari
I welcome your movement and would like to join your community as a
non-religious person.

Happy Humanist, UK
Until recently my work involved considerable contact with members the major faith groups in London. I have learnt about their beliefs, their culture and visited their places of worship. I am concerned at the levels of extremist (particularly Islamist) ideology. Government at both local and national level are pandering to Islamic groups and throwing funding at them, in a seemingly desperate attempt to prevent violent extremism. I am also worried about the continuing oppression of women, their views and rights as individuals. The Quran is clearly being interpreted, by men, to reinforce cultural and historical stereotypes of women. Matters of faith should be personal and completely removed from the political and organisation structure of the UK, particularly our education system."

many hundreds others.

There are people lacking faith from all religions. How many Christians per day leave Christianity? Probably thousands.

To think that nobody would ever leave Islam would be naive, it happened even during Muhammad's (pbuh) time, when they had the Prophet in front of them...

Is this meant to counter your obvious frustration at learning that many sincerely religious seekers are choosing Islam instead of Christianity?

Quick - the dam is leaking.
I am too bored tt say "STOP DIVAERTING AND START YOUR OWN THREAD"

"Mosab Hassan Yousef is an extraordinary young man with an extraordinary story. He was born the son of one of the most influential leaders of the militant Hamas organization in the West Bank and grew up in a strict Islamic family.

Now, at 30 years old, he attends an evangelical Christian church, Barabbas Road in San Diego, Calif. He renounced his Muslim faith, left his family behind in Ramallah and is seeking asylum in the United States.

The story of how his life unfolded is truly amazing, whether you agree or disagree with his views. Below is a transcript on an exclusive FOX News interview with Hassan as he tells firsthand how a West Bank Muslim became a West Coast Christian."

Since I'd probably never consider state-executioner as a good career path, I highly doubt it.

If however you're insinuating (as you've done enough times before, and been told to stop being so daft) that I might be a vigilante of some kind, then all I can say is get a grip on yourself.

So, abu is saying, "don't ask that question."

Not, "yes" or "no"

"....Yousef highlighted that Hamas was the first to use suicide bombers as weapons against civilians.

"They (Hamas) are blind and ignorant. It's true, there are good and bad people everywhere, but Hamas supporters don't understand that they are led by a wicked and cruel group that brainwashes the children and gets them to believe that if they carry out a suicide attack they'll get to Paradise,” he said.

The Muslim-turned-Christian says he does not think Islam will survive for more than 25 years because the truth about Islam will be exposed given the mass communication available in the modern age.

For his part, Yousef says he hopes to “open the eyes” of Muslims and “reveal the truth” to them about Islam and Christianity with the goal to “take them out of the darkness and the prison of Islam.”

“In that way they'll have an opportunity to correct their mistakes, to become better people and to bring a chance for peace in the Middle East,” he said. ......."

sprint,

Even if his story is true, which I sincerely doubt, due to glaring inaccuracies like this:

"MOSAB HASSAN YOUSEF: Such as Muhammad's wives. You will never go to a mosque and hear about anyone talking about Muhammad's wives, which is like more than 50 wives — and nobody knows (this), by the way. If you ask the majority of Muslims, they will not know this fact."

(Even you know this is not correct I think sprint, just with the knowledge you've gained about Islam over the past few months)

It doesn't really mean much. Just because he's a son of a HAMAS official, therefore he must be a great Muslim? Does it somehow mean because his father is strong in Islam (if he is) then his son must be as well?

No Abu, I did not mean to imply you were a vigilante - hence the qualifier about the appropriate situation being a Caliphate. I just wanted to know whether you felt personally compfortable with the death sentence for these people. Do you feel comfortable with it (assuming someone else does the deed), or can you only support their death with the reassurance that it is God's will?

This is how you worded it freediver... You're quite obviously asking if I'd specifically carry out the act, which I would not. And I also suspect that the actual intention behind your post, is more to paint it in the context of someone carrying out such a vigilante action in a Western democratic country like Australia.

I really find your line of questioning (quite regularly) to be offensive, loaded and really not an appropriate way to discuss stuff. I will not continue this discussion with you, as it lacks the basic decency and respect for participants on both sides, that I require in a two-way discussion.

You are about 4 serious questions tonight and 4 months overall behind giving answers Abu.

"What we believe:

Some of us have embraced other religions but most of us have simply left Islam without believing in any other religion. We believe in humanity. We believe that humans do not need to follow a religion to be good. All we need to follow is the Golden Rule. All we have to do is to treat others the way we expect to be treated. This is the essence of all the goodness. All good religious teachings stem from this eternal principle. This is the ultimate guidance humanity need. This is the Golden Rule.

Why Mohammed was not a prophet:

One who claims to be a messenger of God is expected to live a saintly life. He must not be given to lust, he must not be a sexual pervert, and he must not be a rapist, a highway robber, a war criminal, a mass murderer or an assassin. One who claims to be a messenger of God must have a superior character. He must stand above the vices of the people of his time. Yet Muhammad’s life is that of a gangster godfather. He raided merchant caravans, looted innocent people, massacred entire male populations and enslaved the women and children. He raped the women captured in war after killing their husbands and told his followers that it is okay to have sex with their captives and their “right hand possessions” (Quran 33:50) He assassinated those who criticized him and executed them when he came to power and became de facto despot of Arabia. Muhammad was bereft of human compassion. He was an obsessed man with his dreams of grandiosity and could not forgive those who stood in his way. Muhammad was a narcissist like Hitler, Saddam or Stalin. He was astute and knew how to manipulate people, but his emotional intelligence was less evolved than that of a 6-year-old child. He simply could not feel the pain of others. He brutally massacred thousands of innocent people and pillaged their wealth. His ambitions were big and as a narcissist he honestly believed he is entitled to do as he pleased and commit all sorts of crimes and his evil deeds are justified. "

This is how you worded it freediver...

Yes, the first time. This is how I worded it the second time. Notice it is subtly different:

Do you feel comfortable with it (assuming someone else does the deed), or can you only support their death with the reassurance that it is God's will?

You're quite obviously asking if I'd specifically carry out the act, which I would not.

What if the Caliph asked you to? Someone's got to do it.

And I also suspect that the actual intention behind your post, is more to paint it in the context of someone carrying out such a vigilante action in a Western democratic country like Australia.

That's just silly Abu. Are you getting a bit paranoid? Sometimes a question is just a question. Believe me I am interested enough in your answer to what I actually asked.

I really find your line of questioning (quite regularly) to be offensive, loaded and really not an appropriate way to discuss stuff. I will not continue this discussion with you, as it lacks the basic decency and respect for participants on both sides, that I require in a two-way discussion.

It's a very direct question Abu. It has no hidden agenda. My meaning is exactly as it appears on the surface. I'm noyt sure why you even need to see a hidden agenda. Don't you think the issue as I raised it is big enough?

From the other thread on apostasy:

http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1222521579

What if someone is 'born into' a Muslim family and society. Do they ever have to make a conscious choice to be regarded as a Muslim? Would a typical 14 yo boy in that situation be killed if he apostasised?
