Germain, 59, was found in the bathroom of her Darlinghurst apartment by police after she was reported missing in April 2006.

She had been dead for up to six days, and the scene was "suspicious and bizarre", Mr Dillon said.

Her face was covered by clothing and her dress was hiked up around her neck, exposing partially-shaved genitals which were clasped with a clothes peg.

A construction hat and foot spa had been placed over her body, with pillows, plastic bags, clothes and toiletries strewn about the room.

A toaster hung from the shower rail, while the electrical cord of an iron had been wrapped around Germain's neck.

There was a knife, a disposable razor and a used syringe nearby.

"While it is possible Ms Germain died naturally, and that her flat was ransacked and her body disturbed after she had been found dead ... the circumstances surrounding her death are so suspicious that one could not confidently make that finding," Mr Dillon said in Glebe Coroners Court.
