"THREE Islamist militants were killed in the final assault on Mumbai's Taj Mahal hotel that signalled the end to a two-day assault on India's financial capital.

"We said there were three terrorists .... and we have got three bodies,'' J.K. Dutt, head of India's National Security Guard, told reporters outside the hotel.

"As of right now there is no firing,'' Mr Dutt said, while stressing that the final all-clear had not yet been sounded.

"We are now going through each and every room to make sure it is safe,'' he said, appealing to any guests still hiding in the hotel to make themselves known.

"Small explosions'' might be heard as his men carried out the final floor-by-floor clearing operation, said Mr Dutt.

Extremely heavy gunfire was heard from inside Mumbai's Taj Mahal hotel, with a major blaze also breaking out as Indian commandos fought to clear the building of Islamic militants."

They are just as much victims as the others. Most of them looked like High school students. The message is clear. Catch them while they're young, enthusiastic and willing to do anything that they can be brainwashed to do.

We need to get rid of the callous barbaric savages that are responsible for perpetuating this kind of obscenity. They are not motivated by religion. To them it's all about personal power - like thugs and gangsters anywhere, but they know how to manipulate young naïve people using a combination of religion and hatred of Westerners (economic racism) in this case.

Of course thugs don't have to use religion to manipulate people. They just need to latch on to some other scapegoat characteristic, such as a particular race or religion (eg the Jews in WWII) or just dehumanise the intended victims to make their students believe that they are fighting against an enemy who have committed some kind of atrocity or are depriving the intended martyrs of some fundamental right.

In this case, it was probably a combination of all of the above, primarily using Islam as a tool to wreak destruction.

I was just commenting on the Mumbai case, but we see more of the same in Palestine and Iraq. It's always the young ones who are 'sacrificed'. We rarely see the middle aged ones being involved in suicide attacks.

The attackers were just pawns. Killing them is no victory. It was a suicide mission to beign with. The communities that these people came from need to track down the people behind it (the clerics) and string them up, rather than makling up excuses for not getting involved. Either that, or outsiders will do it for them. Hopefully this will be the final straw that forces the Pakistani government to wipe out the lunatics in the hills. The battle seems to be moving ever closer to home for the extremists. The time will come when they will turn on their own neighbours.

That couldnt be more true, and it makes martyrs of them.
I have a solution to this problem.

They must be humiliated and treated as horse theives.
They must be held naked in stocks in the public square where the local serfs can throw pig meat at them.
Before being hung as a common theif they must be converted to either christianity or judaism as a degrading insult.
Finally, after being bathed in pigs blood be hung with rope made of hemp and be constantly told until they breathe their last breath that they are the scum of the earth and shall find themselves in a piggery in hell.
