Looks like a toilet from an idiot who didn't stop to consider that piss ricohets and will splatter all over you if you just pee against a flat surface. That's why you aim it down.

Albeit the signature says 1917. So it's perfectly plausible this was a prototype. But considering they have the common sense to make outhouses downward, I'd assume the first toilet was too...

But I still believe there's something left for you and me.
