Israel 'evicts Jerusalem families'

More than 1,500 people could be left homeless by the threatened demolitions [AFP]

More than 1,500 Palestinians living in East Jerusalem could be made homeless after Israel told them their homes are illegal and are to be demolished.

"The owners of 80 houses in the al-Bustan neighbourhood have received eviction notices saying that the structures will be destroyed because they are illegal," Hatem Abdel Kader, an official responsible for Jerusalem affairs in the Palestinian government, said.

Kader said that several of the houses served with demolition orders had been built before the 1967 war, when Israel captured east Jerusalem from Jordan, but that numerous extensions have been built since.

"The [Jerusalem] municipality used this as a pretext to issue the demolition orders despite appeals by the residents," he said.

No comment was immediately available from the city authorities.

Israel claims all of Jerusalem as its capital and has annexed the Arab east of the city, but under international law east Jerusalem is considered to be occupied and has not been recognised by world powers as the Israeli capital.

According to B'Tselem, the Israeli human rights organisation, Israeli authorities have demolished about 350 houses in east Jerusalem since 2004, saying that they were built without permits.

That's smacking disgusting. It's like eminent domain, but based on pure hatred. They're just doing this cause they're Palestinian.

Then people wonder why The Muslims hate the Jews so much. That's their land, and meanwhile they treat The Arabs like poo, and give the world puppydog eyes and everybody falls for it like suckers.

I don't know how much fifteen euros is in dollars, so I can't tell if this is a bargain or not.

He's a bit of a loon that's all, nothing a straight jacket and some prozac won't fix.

Your friend Calanen on the other hand, as you can see from the quote in my signature, has declared himself a Nazi who'd have no problem loading Muslims into gas chambers... what you got to say for that? Are these the kinds of despicable views you share soren?

Mozz compared both muslimss and calanen to the nazis. Calanen said that the comparison with Islam is apt because of the supremacist ideology of both islam and the nazis. Notice that so far the exchange was about sets of ideas.

Next, Mozz invited comparison between the nazis and calanen, with the image of Calanen pushing muslims into gas chambers. A shift to calling a person a nazi and a provocation calculated to both hit Calanen over the head and to draw a response.

My reading of Calanen's post is that he thinks it ridiculous to compare him and others who stand up against islam to the nazis. I think it is also stupid to say that whoever stands up to Islam is ready to shove muslims into gas ovens. It is a stupid and ridiculous question from Mozz. It is one step up from the shopworn 'islamophobe' label.

Calanen's yes is an ironic yes. The irony is to highlight the absurdity. The next sentence in Calanen's post makes the irony clear.
I think it is stupid to label 'nazi' someone's opposition to islam or any other ideaology. Calanen was naive to thing that the 'gotcha' crwod is not going to latch onto it.

I don't think calanen has identified himself with the nazis other than in an ironic rhetorical device to indicate the ridiculousness of the notion introduced by mozz. If he did actually said anywhere else, unironically, that he is indedd a nazi, I have missed it.

It would be better (because it would be honest) if you quoted both his sentences in your signature. But as you obviously understand, that would have no 'gotcha' value because the irony is plain and so it would be pointless for you to quote it. I can imagine that some people might even try to surmise from the above some sort of 'gotcha' value to taint me with as well. I can certainly see Lestat's rolling, lolling, mad eyes.

Again - if Calanen is really a nazi, please show me another quote and I will bollock him mercilesssly. If not, then perhaps you should take off that signature, it discredits you more than him.
