A senator at the centre of a parliamentary storm over her infant daughter's ejection from the Senate denies the incident was a stunt.
Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young was forced to hand over her screaming two-year-old Kora to a staffer on the orders of Senate president John Hogg on Thursday.
The child was heard screaming as her mother and other senators gathered behind locked doors for a vote, a situation the senator described as the "most humiliating" of her life.
A day after, the senator says she understands the president's ruling, but believes it reflects a 19th Century view of parliament.
"He followed the rule book," she told ABC Television, adding it was time to rethink whether the rules were appropriate for a modern parliament.
"We'll be discussing that on Monday morning when the Senate returns."
Senator Hanson-Young said the incident was not a stunt, pointing out she had previously brought Kora into the chamber.
"I'd just like anyone suggesting that ... to reflect on what actually happened."
So what actually happened? Couldn't she afford a sitter on her meager wage. Why is she bringing her little girl into the chamber?
Anyone aware of the full details.
If it looks like a stunt. Sounds like a stunt. Goes to air like a stunt. Maybe, just maybe, it is a stunt.
