Go Pirate Hunting with the Russians

Luxury yachts offer pirate hunting cruises

Luxury ocean liners in Russia are offering pirate hunting cruises aboard armed private yachts off the Somali coast.

Wealthy punters pay £3,500 per day to patrol the most dangerous waters in the world hoping to be attacked by raiders.

When attacked, they retaliate with grenade launchers, machine guns and rocket launchers, reports Austrian business paper Wirtschaftsblatt.

Passengers, who can pay an extra £5 a day for an AK-47 machine gun and £7 for 100 rounds of ammo, are also protected by a squad of ex special forces troops.

The yachts travel from Djibouti in Somalia to Mombasa in Kenya.

The ships deliberately cruise close to the coast at a speed of just five nautical miles in an attempt to attract the interest of pirates.

"They are worse than the pirates," said Russian yachtsman Vladimir Mironov. "At least the pirates have the decency to take hostages, these people are just paying to commit murder," he continued.

Hmm, I think you'd want to have something better than some tourists with weapons. The Somalis have grown up with weapons their whole lives, and they have grenades and RPGs. You'd want mounted machine guns like the .50 cal to be able to engage the pirates before they were in range of their AKs. But leaving it up to tourists to do, is a recipe for disaster.

Well it does show a particular mindset, and Africa has always been the ultimate destination for big game hunters, and man is supposed to be the top rung of the "game" ladder, so I suppose we should not be surprised.

Easy to dehumanise pirates, but the hunters should be charged extra to help support the families of every "kill" they make.
Maybe go to the funeral, and tell the families how much fun they had.

This is the sort of idiotic thing I expect from the emasculated neo-pseudo metrosexual man of today, who falls over himself to ensure that no one is ever offended. OH poor pirates, oh dear, they are only attacking cruise liners with RPGs and AK-47s! Kill them..oh, heaven's no, what we should do is invite them to sing kumbaya on the deck and sing 'All we are saying...., is give ruthless cuthroat pirates a chance!'

So I really don't care who kills the pirates. I just question the wisdom of tourists with little or no military training getting into a situation they cannot get out of.

Moazzak's emasculated attitude towards using weapons in justified force against pirates trying to kill civilians, reminds me of the Gay Army doing weapons training:

Would you scream like that if someone handed you an automatic weapon to fire moazzak? Oh noes..I might hurt a pirate! Ewww!

In my opinion, it is the responsibililty of every real man to be able to hand the weapons of the day, whether they be swords, projectile firearms, or in the future, laser and blaster weapons. To be able to hit 000 or 911 on the telephone is just not good enough to defend your home and loved ones.

Regrettably. men today have been taught to be pseudo girly men that run around screaming if they ever think about weapons or using them. Oh noes, they are only for the big tough policemens only! Heavens no, I couldn't use a weapon in self defence, might break a nail!

I was only hoping, somebody will act appropriately and here it is happening already.

To me Russians don't seem to be wrong here.

I don't think this is Russian idea, I am pretty sure this is part of Japanese approach too:

Calanen, most of Russian men are military trained. Besides the tourists who can afford to pay for the hunting ticket very likely made their money not by being pacifists. Also there are quiet a few ex soldiers there who fought in Chechnya, they crave for adrenalin, muslim blood and know how to handle weapons.

It's not the russians I am worried about, it's the tourists.

I can afford the ticket, but I didn't use a gun to get my money. If they say only tourists with military training can do this, then fine, but, that's not what the article said.

It's all a lot harder than it looks.

I have checked out this story and what do you know, the story first appeared as 1st April joke, then it was published in Austrian Wirtschaftsblatt and reprinted by Ananova.com but without editorial comment "Comment of the editors: Goldman Morgenstern & Partners tells us, that "they believe", this story is "satire"."

I can usually sniff out a hoax, and check it out using snopes.com This story hasn't made it there. Usually when somebody sends out a sob story via email, I am the one to detect it as a hoax and post a disclaimer.
