Egypt funeral for stabbing victim

Like the pic in my signature, one shot, two kills.

Egypt funeral for stabbing victim

Sherbini's body was returned to Egypt from Germany for the funeral in Alexandria [AFP]
An official funeral has been held for a pregnant Egyptian woman stabbed to death as she prepared to give evidence in a German courtroom.

Several government representatives took part in the funeral for 32-year-old Marwa Sherbini in the northern city of Alexandria on Monday.

Sherbini was stabbed 18 times by a German man of Russian descent, formally identified only as Axel W, last week as she was about to give evidence against him as he appealled against his conviction for calling her a "terrorist" for her wearing the hijab.

Her three-year-old son, Mustapha, witnessed the knife attack on his mother, who was three months pregnant with her second child.

'Hijab Martyr'

Sherbini's husband, Elwi Ali Okaz, an Egyptian academic, was also critically injured as he tried to protect her.

Al Jazeera's Rawyeh Rageh, reporting from Alexandria, said that the case had attracted huge attention in Egypt.

"The local council here in Alexandria, the victim's hometown, has decided to name a street after her and the press is describing her as the 'Hijab Martyr'," she said.

"At least two protests are expected to take place in Alexandria and Cairo as this is being seen as a xenophobic and Islamophobic attack.

"People on the street and members of parliament are asking the government not to take the issue lightly."

Hundreds of mourners gathered for the funeral, some chanting "Down with Germany" and scuffling with police, witnesses said.

'Criminal act'

The German embassy in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, said that the attack was not a reflection of German attitudes towards Muslims.

"It is a criminal act. It has nothing to do with persecution against Muslims," Magdi al-Sayed, a press officer, told the state-run Egyptian Gazette.

"People are looking for victims and Muslims are sometimes seen as a viable option"

Sulaiman Wilms,
European Muslim Union

But Sulaiman Wilms, the head of communications at the European Muslim Union, said that the incident was at least partly representative of the situation faced by Muslims across the continent.
"It definitely reflects a certain spillover from certain elements of the public-media discourse, but it also reflects the general violence and degredation of order which we have within European societies in these times of global crisis," he told Al Jazeera from Cologne.

"People are looking for victims and Muslims are sometimes seen as a viable option."

Sherbini's family have called for revenge following the deadly knife attack on Wednesday.

"If she was just stabbed once, I would have said this is a mad man, but the number of times she and her husband were stabbed reflects the extent of racism this man had in him," Tarek Sherbini, the victim's brother, said.

"Here in Egypt, we believe in 'an eye for an eye'. The least we expect is the death penalty for the murderer."

Right. In terms of the ledger of muslims stabbing people vs infidels stabbing muslims, I think the muslims are winning atm.

If you want me to say that I support people being stabbed, I don't. But the fact this guy decided to stab a muslim woman, doesnt excuse or justify any behaviour of HAMAS or anyone else.

Get a grip on yourself.

The number of Muslims murdered by Western armies, stabbed, shot, burned alive, bombed into smithereens cowardly from the air with the press of a button eclipses the number of Muslims who've killed non-Muslims probably several thousands of times over.

The difference is... in your mind, a Muslim life is worth very little, whilst each and every Westerner who dies is in your mind worth the world... that's about the only discrepancy on the ledgers here.

And who could blame you? after all you're just a mindless drone, who sits and listens to the media day in and day out, whilst it feeds you every single little personal life detail about every Westerner or Jew who dies, about their plans for marriage, or their hopes and ambitions in life, all ruined by the big bad evil Muslim terrorists. Yet when Muslims are slaughtered wholesale, all we hear is a figure. We hear no names, no personal details, nothing to identify them personally as individuals, just a total number of dead/wounded. And sometimes words like "militants" or "gunmen" or "snipers" or "insurgents" are sprinkled into the story, to help desensitise us and allay our fears deep down that this might be something we should have a conscience about...

You mean like the fact some Muslims supposedly flew planes into buildings in NY doesn't justify any behaviour of the US Army in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Or is it different when the shoe's on the other foot? Westerners reacting to attacks is ok, they are "real people" and they have a right to respond and take vengeange for their losses, but when Muslims are attacked, just sit down, relax and forget it... nothing can excuse or justify your reactions... right?

Same deal in Palestine. Zionists can come in, take the homes, villages, property of Palestinians, slaughter hundreds of thousands of them, yet if Palestinians strike back, it's not justified or excused. Yet EVERY SINGLE ACTION of the IDF is justified in your mind, as they're merely _responding_ to  the aggressions of Palestinians.

You're a class A hypocrite mate. How do you look yourself in the mirror, and actually believe such tripe?

Yeah, you've got it in one.

And consider yourself bloody lucky that the US is only a ceremonial Rome. Had the US responsed like Rome - or any self-respecting caliph, come to think of it - there would be no Mecca or Medina now, never mind Iraq and Afghanistan.

If you were half as clever as you reckon yourself to be, you'd know that the U.S would not be stupid enough to bomb symbolic cities like those two, which would ensure the entire Muslim world would work immediately for her destruction.

If the US had the balls of Rome, it would matter not one bit what the Muslims are working on. They would have been taught the meaning of worldy submission a long time ago.

On the thread topic - I would be very interested to hear more Muslim outrage when Muslim women are killed by Muslims.
But that's not going to happen.
