Interesting headline change
Nov 18th, 2009 at 2:51pm

The Daily Telegraph today had an interesting headline change. It seems even their sensationalist editors decided maybe they were going a bit over the top by suggesting a police shooting in Lakemba today was somehow linked to the mosque

Early this morning the headline read:
...

Then this afternoon it had been modified to read:
...

Strangely there's a Church much closer to the house where the incident happened, and yet it wasn't mentioned in the article at all, let alone as part of the headline. But it's just co-incidence, right? Smiley

Why was the Mosque mentioned? I don't understand. Seems pointless really, unless they were using it as a landmark, but still it seems a bit unnecessary. Since they changed the headline it would seem it wasn't necessary to begin with.

I think even someone with a rudimentary ability to analyse things would know that it was quite obviously the Sensationalist Muslim Factor (or SMF for short), and clinging onto the hope it might've been a Muslim involved, so that they could then impress into people's minds that Mosques = Muslims = Violence...

I didn't see that particular article, but the first information on this story said man from Lakemba - which immediately made you think it was a Muslim.

The headline "Police shoot armed man near Mosque" really is sensationalism at its worst, particularly as he was stabbing himself only.

What if the headline had said "Police Shoot Armed Man near Church"

Would that have been sensationalist headlines too?

If the same headline had appeared in the Khaleej Times regarding an incident in Dubai, would it still have been sensationalist?

Abu's point is valid, we do assume that muslims are less well balanced mentally, and that they are of a more violent nature, than mainstream aussies, so by saying the man was just metres from a mosque, is put there to have people link this man's deranged behaviour, with Islam.

If the man was not a muslim, then to do so would be absolutely prejudiced, sensationalist reporting, and deserves to be condemned as such.

Unfortunately the opportunities to run stories about good muslim behaviour, to balance up the reporting, are a little thin on the ground.

I have been waiting years, hoping to see stories of muslims cleaning up their internal problems, but I wait in vain, because they still continue to deny they have any internal problems, apparently everything bad that muslims do is the fault of the infidels.

muso,

As mentioned, there is actually a church much closer to the house than the mosque...

Only bigots such as yourself assume such things, because in the past you've been duped by similar sensationalism.

And even more particularly because he was an Anglo Aussie.
