The Spirit of Things ABC Radio 16 May

I was listening to "The Spirit of Things" last night on ABC Radio. I caught the second program on progressive Christianity.

Unfortunately I missed the first one. The program last night made for interesting listening.  Fred Plumer's brand of Christianity gets rid of the concept of atonement - the idea that Christ's death was a sacrifice and that anyone could basically get a fast track to heaven by simply believing in Christ. He makes the point that this is revisionist theology, which came to us via the very people who executed Christ - the Romans.

He also speaks about the concept of original sin - the view that mankind can't help committing sin,  and argues that this is totally against the teachings of Christ and against common sense.

It's an interesting development in Christianity. He seems to be removing a lot of the later add-ins and in the process, the central tenet of most evangelical Christians.

Of course, the Jehovah Witnesses attempted to do something similar.

Very interesting stuff indeed. Worth a listen or a read once the transcript comes up.
