I remember reading "I'm OK - You're OK" in my teens to blot out boring bus trips to and from the city.

One time a Goth looking chick saw what I was reading and took exception to it. "You know that's all fvckin bullshit", she railed, "You don't need to read that fvckin crap to know how to live". I listened to her as she raged on about mind-control conspiracies and her firm conviction that we're all 'good to go from within' and 'why give money to wannabe demagogues to tell you what you already know'. I remember looking into her blood-shot eyes and the scars on her arms wondering what she meant by 'good to go'.
