Steve Morse has sadly left Deep Purple.

His wife is dying of cancer, and he wants to spend time with her before she goes.

Steve was in DP for 28 years.

He's great on guitar.
He used too much distortion in that clip.

Yes, he did.

Which is unusual because he's usually a relatively clean player.

I met him at a guitar clinic maybe 25 years ago.

A really sweet guy (has a bad stutter he struggles with, but has gotten on top of in recent years).

It's very sad to hear about his wife - he's just sitting with her at home waiting until she passes away.

Horrible stuff  Cry

wow
You have your finger on all the action.   Shocked

Bobby, I was a fulltime professional musician during the 80s and 90s.

I went to every guitar clinic held in Perth, and saw every band that played here.

I supported bands from all over the country, and the world.

Guitar clinics held in music shops were very common.

I remember seeing, and meeting, Steve Morse, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Tommy Emmanuel (a few times), Baby Animals (Perth band), Brett Garsed, and many other great musicians at clinics held in Perth music stores.

You'd show up at about 7pm, have a drink, and then the artist would come on stage at about 7.30.

They'd play some songs, and promote the product they were there for - Maton guitars, Marshall amps, Boss pedals, whatever.

After they finished on stage they'd hang around for an hour or so talking to people and signing autographs.

Anyway, Steve Morse was one of the most memorable because he was such a friendly guy who would give you all the time in the world.

I remember he stayed back for about 2 hours or more answering questions and talking to people.

Very sad to hear about his wife.

I never knew that.
You should have turned music into gold if you were that good.

Sure, I was good okay, but my peers here in Perth were people like Diesel.

Diesel - Mark Lizotte - was a friend/aquaintance of mine back in the '80s, and he'd get all the work and all the girls.

My friends and I were also competing with the Baby Animals, Eurogliders, The Stems, etc.

Plus, I had a young family so I decided to get a "real job".

I then went on to teach guitar, and do studio/advertisement work here and there.

Had some trios and duos that played around town, and that was fun.

Life's what happens when you're busy making other plans.

Now I collect guitars, and do repair work for others in my spare time.

I just play on the lounge these days.
